I tell you what, believe it or not. On my early years, on weekends, I will sit on the edge of the window and start singing and belting out. Filipinos are already singing way back before the advent of modern musical technology, they did it acapella or tapping anything for the rhythm. We improvised musical instruments from available materials in where we were. We memorized songs by listening to the radio which was our only source then. We really love music. Our voice may be good or bad but it doesn't prevent us from singing and everybody is encouraged to sing. We are happy when everybody participates.

I dont agree with what you said its the karaoke machine that makes filipinos good singers. We have a lot of good singers even before the invention of karaoke. We just love singing even at a young age. That could be one of the reasons.

Me as a Filipino let me tell you the truth, it's not the water or food, it's in our culture to express ourselves through music!

When we are sad, we sing( remember reacting to a man sang to his beloved wife during her burial? Or if we are hurt/broken)

When we are happy, we sing( we sing in every occassion like birthdays, christmas or any occassion including holyweek where reminiscing how Jesus died for us)

When we are inlove, we sing( remember the bride singing an original song to her husband to be, we even sing while courting called Harana)

We sing everyday in any mood because that's how we express our feelings 🙂 you know the saying "practice makes perfect"? Because we often sing we ourselves learns what the proper technique to use when we sing unaware of what are techniques called. We learn to apply the techniques before we even knew what the techniques is. As the time goes by we are polishing our singing voice without realising at some point we just know it when someone complimenting us. Because we love to sing videoke/karaoke became part of our everyday life.
