How to Pray “Our Father” Like Never Before

When was the last time you prayed the Our Father and actually thought about the words you were praying? In a way, it’s a summation of our faith, especially when it comes to our relationship with God the Father. It’s so important, in fact, that it’s the prayer Jesus teaches his disciples when they ask how they should pray (Matthew 6:7-15). But because it is such a cornerstone of our prayer tradition, we can tend to overlook it.

Today, Fr. Mark-Mary and Brother Kolbe share why they love the Our Father, and how we can pray it with a whole new fervor.

I appreciate how Father Mark Mary lets whomever he is with shine on their own without much interruption. Brother Kolbe's sincerity really got to me. I will think of him and his love the next time I say the Our Father.

This reminded me of a story...

A former priest of mine brought some pilgrims to the miracle of Lanciano (where the Eucharist turned to flesh and blood in the 1600s).

One of the pilgrims wailed and wept for 3 hrs— too the point of it being a nuisance.

Later the priest asked him what his crying was about. He said he wept the first hour when a bright light from the tabernacle (with the flesh and blood) penetrated his soul— and God showed Him how much He loved him. He said said he wept the remaining two hours because of how little he loves God back.

There is a story about st. Francis not being able to get past the beginning of the prayer because he was in awe of our Father. I think I've felt that and it's beautiful.

I’ve never thought of “daily bread” as Jesus. Whenever I pray Our Father, I just thought of daily bread as physical supplication. Thank you Bro. Kolbe for sharing your experience and reflection. May God give you His peace.

I could see your heart spilled into those words, dear Br Kolbe. It's inspiring for me to desire a deeper love for Our Lord! I'll be keeping you both and the Franciscan Friars of the renewal in my prayers. God bless!

I have been praying the Lord's prayer my whole life, but this is the first time I heard such definition. It's so beautiful 😍😍😍 I hope this explanation gets to everyone to have a greater appreciation for God 🥰

A nice image to think of when praying the Our Father is to visualize yourself sitting with Jesus and with everyone throughout the world praying these beautiful words together. These beautiful words given to us by Jesus are not about 'me', it's about 'us'. Love the Creed...it's my daily declaration/agreement, my fiat with the Lord.

Brother Kolbe, I will quote you in my Sermon today. Thank you for your heart and honesty and touching devotion to Jesus. As you have touched my heart, I pray your words will touch many, as they come from the Father. I am sure of that. Thank you and God Bless You in every way, every day. I look forward to watching more!
