Low Ferritin levels found during post bariatric surgery labs. I initially had Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy but needed to have a revision to Gastric Bypass/ RNY due to very severe acid reflux (Gerd).

Thank you for sharing your experience. I found out a little over a month ago that my ferritin was crazy low as well... 4.9. I didn't even know what ferritin was before I demanded to see an endocrinologist who ran a test for ferritin and a few other things. I felt awful for over 8 months, saw 2 primary care doctors and a neurologist and had a ton of blood and other tests done before I got to this point. Upon getting the low ferritin result, the endocrinologist had someone call me to tell me to take an iron supplement with vitamin C. I started researching iron infusions immediately after that and called the office asking about infusions, but they keep blowing me off. I don't feel any different after a month of taking the supplements. I'm so over feeling crappy after 10 months now, that the thought of waiting another few to several months to maybe finally feel better is depressing and angering to me. How were you able to have infusions prescribed to you?? And now that it's been a while, are you feeling more normal yet? I'm just so frustrated that the doctor seems to want me to take the slow road to feeling better when I know there's a shortcut!!!

I have been getting low ferritin results (5, 8) over past 19 years now and doctors still do nothing, not even supplements. I don't get it. I am glad you got the treatment that you needed. I will keep fighting my treatment because I am feeling exhausted, but they see my hemoglobin is just right so they don't care about the symptoms...

I looked this up because I had my first injectofer infusion today for low blood ferritin levels.
I was also nervous but it was because the information I had researched previously was about venifer- which is another name brand iv iron.
And apparently the there’s very little side effects with injectofer vs venifer. It’s scary because in order to get this treatment I had to be referred to an oncologist who has the ability here in Nashville to treat patients on site in their treatment areas.
So I consulted and my insurance approved two infusions to start and I have another in a week.
I wanted to talk about the physical effects of low iron/ferritin because it’s hard to explain to other people about the feelings. I felt like it was hard to exist. Just being awake was exhausting. Every single thing takes effort. I also had a period of time when I was really short of breath and had heart palpitations which can be very scary.
I’m grateful you’ve done videos about this process.
Oh I meant to mention I had a duodenal switch back in 2009, and have struggled to stay nourished since. I have had two revisions to hopefully help me to keep a hold of my nutrition better.
I have to really work diligently to keep my protein levels up or I swells up and suffer badly with that.

How much your Ferritin levels increased after infusions?? Does your hair fall stopped after infusions?

omg, my hemo is also 11, but my ferritin is at a 3! Going to see PCP this week, and with ferritin at a 3, I'm thinking that the PCP should directly send me to iron infusions, yes? I really don't want to take the risk of taking iron pills bc I hear they take forever to do anything.

I have 4.4 of ferritin and low blood sugar too, a doctor gave me 330 mg of ferrous fumarate iron pills i guess I need an infusion too?

Can lump in the throat sensation be caused by iron deficiency? I'm slightly iron deficiency.... I'm also highly deficient in vit d.... All my other minerals and vit levels are fine... But my throat is dying everyday

I have a 7 ferritin & 8.3 hemoglobin currently, ive been dealing with severe brainfog, anxiety, insomnia, low concentration, and weak.
