Canning Tomatoes

The tomato trellises that I made last spring have turned out well. They have not fallen apart and they were about the right size. The tomatoes that I grow I mostly can in jars for the Winter. I find the flavor of homegrown canned tomatoes to be far superior to the store bought canned tomatoes.

The sound of the lids popping down on the jars (8:16) is one of the happiest sounds in the world!

Frank you never cease to amaze me with how you can post a video on a subject I'm not all that interested in, yet still have me smiling and watching the entire way through, love your work!

I think you should have skinned them on the lathe.

I'd skip a canning video from pretty much anyone else on YouTube.

I would watch "cooking with frank". How do you enjoy your kitchen now that you've lived with it for a bit?

I have found that following Frank's process to cut the whole tomatos but then roasting them in a large pan in the oven produces much faster results to thicken the sauce. Additionally roasting produces some amazing flavors as the sugars get caramelized.

The mark of a true educator is the ability to impart knowledge to someone who may not know that they have retained it. That's why I enjoy these videos. I just watch and learn.

Odd shaped and colored tomatoes are usually heirloom and much more flavorful. Grandmother taught me to place a wooden spoon over the top of the pot to keep it from frothing and over boiling ;-)

Brings back memories, we would always grown and can our own garden items. remember my Dad in the kitchen for hours, he used a pressure cooker, we did green beans, tomatoes, pickles from cucumbers, all kinds of food, Thanks for sharing Frank

Is there anything Frank can't do? Woodworking, metal work, machine work, plastering walls, canning tomatoes... amazing

I'm retired. I watch Franks videos. not just because the cinematography and entertainment values, but I tend to key off his "pace" and thought processes. I really get more done around the house and in the woodshop now. Thanks for sharing, man.

That narrow depth of field in the tomatoes is beautiful

One of the best sounds of summer, the pop from a canning hat. Success!

I used to watch my Grandma can tomatoes. I can remember that smell. As a kid I didn't really like tomatoes just as they were but the smell of them stewing was incredible.

After each video, when Frank says: "thanks for watching", I'm responding with: thanks for making:)
