What!? An apple product where you can easily change the battery? Inconceivable!

I had to wipe the battery coating off with nail polish remover to make mine work

A rare props to Apple for not soldering the Airtags shut

It is actually because the original CR2032 with bitter coat from Duracell DOES NOT work with AirTag, it’s slightly thicker! I believe they updated their technique to make it work now. I learnt it the hard way

I'm actually amazed Apple didn't make that way more hard then it was AND that you could replace the battery in the first place.

important to note that most of those batteries are lithium-ion and CANNOT be thrown in the regular garbage, however, you can get a 2032 battery charger and re-use them. If they happen to be alkaline then you can just throw them out but for the apple air tag from what I can tell lithium ones are better.

I love watching iPhone users putting out tutorials on things anybody should know to do like.

To folks wondering what the ‘coating’ is and why it’s there.

These type of “button” cells are EXTREMELY TOXIC if swallowed, and they are easily swallowed by infants / children, which can easily result in fatal outcomes.

The coating is a non-toxic EXTREMELY bitter chemical designed to trigger the spit / gag reflex so the child will not swallow the cell.

As all parents know, the first thing a toddler does when they pick up a (ooh, shiny!) object is place it in their mouth to better figure it out.

This is a life-saving coating.

Also, some manufacturers have not taken the coating thickness into account, thus their cells are too thick.
These cells have a standard sizing requirement

I love to think that some one just saw the first few seconds and threw the airtag

I just wish someone would come out with a video on how to remove the speaker on the new AirTags. I bought four originally and easily removed the speaker. The new ones are much more difficult and I haven’t figured it out yet or seen any videos.

You need to watch between lithium and alkaline batteries. One is for low energy (i think its alkaline?) for stuff like remote controls etc and the air tag which is meant to go global (depending on where you left it) has to be lithium.

That marketing is smart. If you’re looking for the right battery on a wall of batteries and one says it’s compatible meanwhile the other doesn’t say anything. Chances are the average consumer is going to buy that one
