Man, i remember going on a school camp when i was like 12 and just before bed on the first night, the camp operator told us all about this story of how in the 70's during the summer, a young girl had snuck out of her room and went to the lake and drowned. Now she returns every night to keep kids away from the lake ( smart way to keep us inside). Anyway, at like 3 in the morning, we heard a splash and some really loud screams. We were all terrified and we heard a lot of the teachers yelling and running down to the lake to see what was going on.
We poked out heads out of the room to see what was going on and a teacher hurried us back inside. We legit thought someone had died cause of how serious they were. We heard more yelling and screaming and after all that.
turned out it was just two female teachers taking an intimate late night swim and they screamed cause the water was cold lmao. The yelling was because their husbands ( also teachers) had caught them in the act.

After a few scary experiences of my own, I have permanently given up on tent camping. There is nothing but a thin sheet of material between you and god knows who. The wildlife doesn't scare me, but the psychopaths sure as hell do.

Thank heavens the first storyteller had the fortune of getting through to 911 and reported that murder. Excellent thinking and timing. So damn tragic that poor woman suffered such a horrible death. At least the cops showed up when they did.

My favorite horror stories are camping/night drive/hitchhiker ones. The third story was very chilling and then to hear footsteps outside and so close to the tent did what is intended, to scare the crap out of everyone listening. I used to love camping with the family when I was a kid at a CAMPGROUND with lots of other families around. I could never imagine going into the woods somewhere, murderville to me, and being so exposed to anyone looking to do harm. Very dangerous-- especially these days. Great stories!!
