Finally somebody debunked those ridiculous purple teeth whitening companies!

VFX were used. As far as I can tell, the banana is already painted white when the scene begins but VFX are applied to make it appear the perfect, vibrant yellow. You can see that there's still some imperfections around his finger where the banana is white underneath as he moves around. As he steps behind the glass the yellow VFX is removed and the true white painted banana is revealed. It's pretty well done.

Yellow+purple only becomes white when it's yellow spectrum of light and purple spectrum of light mixing. When it's yellow color and purple color mixing, it just turns into shit color.

The same concept applies to hair colouring. Say you bleach your hair and want it to be more blonde then yellow, you can use a purple toner or purple shampoo.
Bleached hair tends to end either brassy, or even yellow, for most people. Eumelanin (brown and black pigment) breaks down more easily then pheomelanin (red to yellow), so if you start with say dark brown hair and want to go light blonde, adding purple pigment can reduce the yellowness, and blue pigment can lessen brassy/orange tones.

As an artist I knew instantly it was fake. You can't make something lighter than it already was by adding on colored pigment. You might be able to cancel the color out but you'd get grey, not white.

Here's an interesting real fact: most "whitening" laundry detergents contain an ultraviolet dye. When invisible UV light (especially abundant in sunlight) hits the dye, it reflects back as visible white light. So the clothes actually reflect back more visible white light than what they were illuminated with, making them actually appear "whiter".
