It is called "to pay" attention for a reason.

I like to spend mine on people. Listening to people, bonding with people, because then it’s rewarded with joy and fulfilment. But when people demand your attention and use it to tell you how worthless you are, then that would be like paying someone to steal from you. It’s a lose-lose. When it is my choice to give you attention, then it usually is rewarding. If my attention is demanded, then it usually ends badly

I once had a media proffesor tell us to get this app that notifies you of local news everytime it happens. It was during covid times. Needless to say I developed further mental health issues and dropped the class. Finally I realized I needed to delete the whole damn app and focus on my life, not local news.

My guy, you’re preaching to the choir but I have adhd. I have like 14 cents a day, and it’s taken by work.

Throughout all of history humans have found things to entertain them. Be it bird watching, newspaper, radio, TV, or apps on their phone. Rather than getting home after work and watching TV, people are now just watching tiktok. There’s no shame in finding entertainment for yourself.

Lol if most people start out with $100 a day, I start out with $22

To add onto this many people also have disabilities which reduce their daily budget or vary every day. Some people might have 72 instead which makes it a lot more drastic and severe to use it on things you don't value.

Further more, some differences in how people work can affect this. Things like ADHD and Autism can mean that rather than a consistent 100 a day it's actually anywhere between 70 to 120 and somtimes its locked behind a vault or pay wall that you do not remember or know how to open as it changes daily.

Obviously the example given is meant to be simple but it's a powerful example that I felt could be extended further.

The irony of watching this as a YouTube short lol

I find it ironic that he's in the act of the thing he's speaking against.

I feel like this analogy is ripe for warping and misrepresentation. It seems like it's easy enough to extend it to finding ways to get metaphorical time refunds (which ironically I get from browsing social media).
