I think the pros outweigh the cons. I just love that Idaho is a Constituion state! Being a CA native, I despise this State with a passion, and being extremely conservative, it is impossible and very frustrating, living here. I love your videos and appreciate your honesty! We are young retirees and know that we can't stay here, but not really sure where we want to go. Your videos really assist our research. Thank you for taking the time to inform!

Trent, You didn’t mention the retired military benefits in Idaho as well. About $60K of your income isn’t taxed for disabled vets and other benefits as well.
Having lived in CA, CO, AL, FL, NE, AK I chose Idaho to retire to after driving through Sandpoint during a summer trip. We’ve lived in Hope for 7+ years and love it. Winter snow is beautiful if you don’t have to drive in it every day!

I visited Coeur D'Alene two weeks ago. I've been there at least a half dozen times now. I'm shocked how built up the surrounding communities are getting. But there's still a lot of open space. There's also a ton of great tasting food there. I love that park you shot your video from. Great memories with friends visiting and spending time there. The dam was finally flowing two weeks ago. When I was there in early November it was barely a trickle, but then again it was only 29 degrees that day. I recommended a friend look into that area for retirement and let him know there's a lot of properties with room for horses, which would be perfect for him.

We have a modest house on 4 acres a mile inside the WA/ID state line and it works for us. We do our business in Idaho and save on gas and sales tax. We buy most of our food in WA since there is no tax on food. We really appreciate that there are no water issues here. The fact we have no state income tax keeps this as our primary residence as we have a pretty decent passive income. I recently read that Idaho is in the top 10 worst states for overall income taxes, so a move to Idaho will not be in the picture. We have a winter home in St. George, Utah, so we avoid the cold weather and get a nice change in scenery twice a year.

After living my whole life in Southern California, I retired to North Idaho seven years ago and even spent four years as a member of the City Council in the town where I settled. Most of what Trent says is spot on. Only thing that I take exception with is that I have found prices at the super market a bit more expensive. However, with everything else being much less, it is all good.

I have to give a warning for those from the southern tier of the union who move here that even though I have not found the winters to be too bad, the length of the daylight hours in winter and the constant cloud cover in winter affected me greatly that first winter. The next summer, someone at church asked me if I took Vitamin D. "Huh? What's that?" They said, "Try it. You will see." And I did. Even though I still don't like the short days and constant cloud cover, at least the winters are tolerable now.

You’re a nice guy. I live in Montana and I get mad when people move here. You’re generous sharing what you love.

Need to do a video for retirees for hunting in the sawtooth mountains! Can you use handicapped 4x4’s to get to a good hunting spot?

I wish I could afford to buy something in N Idaho in my modest retirement. I'm very outdoorsy here in Colorado (mountaineering, skiing, etc). We don't have grizzlies, and Idaho does so that would scare me. I enjoy watching the YT channel Good Simple Living and their related podcast channel so I'm always thinking about that area. Being stuck in a blue lib state is hard, but at least I can climb lots of mountains without grizzlies. <sigh>

The only thing that isn't particularly appealing in Idaho is the cold weather, but on the average it's not that bad in the Treasure Valley. Just have to get used to living in cold weather and learn how to adapt to it. The Treasure Valley looks like the best place to suit our family's lifestyle and needs.

I have relatives in Northern Idaho. But for healthcare, a person has to go to Spokan or some other big city out of Idaho.

North Idaho looks like a perfect place for a well-heeled retiree, who can travel south for the winter season, and can easily travel for better medical services whenever needed. You could easily fly down to Los Angeles for a day of appointments and be back by dinner, or take an easy night in Malibu to catch some waves before heading back the next day.

Not a retiree, but leaving the military and looking at moving there. Grew up in TN and TX, as conservative as they come except a little more anti-government than most in TX. I visited Latah and Nez Perce county while on leave, they damn near ran me out of town when I mentioned I had an interest in moving there. I had a gas station owner and a cop (who was getting coffee there) tell me people like me are the reason they can't afford rent, Idaho is full, to tell everyone to stop coming here.

On another note, Idaho sounds great, I have never lived in snow, I am worried about getting to work on time because of it.

All the people on here spouting off about their 'extreme conservatism' ought to consider dropping the extremism, they'd be a lot less scared and upset about the world. Extreme positions, both left and right are ludicrous and counterproductive to society in general.

I bought land in North Idaho so I could retire there. Now, I can't get any of my friends to move up there with me.
