There's a fascinating anecdote about Mongolian alcoholism that many people don't know.
You see, alcohol amongst the Mongolians before the conquests began. Mostly was in the form of fermented mare's milk, known in Mongolian as airag.
Airag has a pretty low alcohol content (between 0.5% to 2%). This made drinking until you were drunk a pretty big flex among the Mongols, so drinking was a pretty big part of their culture. It was considered quite masculine to drink a copious amount, vomit, then drink more.

European alcohol, which had a much higher alcohol content (4% and up), when introduced, caused a serious issue amongst the Mongols, causing a breakdown in their society.

The Mongols problem with alcohol is shown by a translated manuscript from c. 1234 mongol court that lists "things to avoid and shun when drinking liquor ". The list is 3 pages long.

Fun fact: I live in Iceland, and the horses here are related to the horses of Mongolia. Yes, that means the Vikings used the same kind of horses as the Mongolians.

The Icelandic horse has 5 different types of walking. Is a very friendly and social animal, but can also be stubborn and tricky ... you try making it do something it doesn't want to do, good luck!

But the most distinctive feature is without a doubt just how tough it is. Of course it has to be to survive the weather here!

A video on defensive architecture might be neat, maybe pick a few different designs or advancements to discuss? Hoardings, machicolations, sloped walls, round towers, moats, baileys, etc. There's plenty to choose from.

The horse and bow were basically an extention of their own body by the time they're adults... imagine learning to ride and shoot since you were born. Amazing.

I think a good series would be the evolution of fortification, from short walled Mesopotamia cities, to high walled classical and early medieval cities, the transition to castles and castle building to govern areas. And then to star forts, and finally to the modern FOBs or Forward Operating Bases. And how as early as last year, the French built a star fort as an FOB in Africa.

I think the clincher is that fortification and casting never went out of style would be a good revelation for many viewers.

The Mongol hunting strategies were not just about getting food. They were also training for warfare. As the Hungarians learned at the Battle of Mohi, you don't want to be in circled by Mongols.

In a discussion of History and Empires, the Mongols, and to a slightly similar degree, the Huns are the Exemption.

So a minor math mistake. He implied that the more horses you had the longer before you changed your mount. But really it means longer before you have to use the same mount twice.

Anyone else thinking of Total War: Warhammer Chaos Knights animations when watching these guys on their horses? Like there's something uncanny valley about seeing those little ponies go so fast while seeing a man nearly as big as them on their back.

So horses are to the Mongols, as guns are to Americans.

"Alcohol saved Europe" Honesty it sound more like the incredibly centralized command structure of the Mongols saved Europe, with a line of succession that was complex that it caused multiple campaigns to stop dead dead in their tracks
