This was a Big Week, it was all about Mixing Low End… more specifically mixing Kick & Bass.

We did 2 LIVE Q&A’s, mixing kick and bass in hiphop and showed you some low end mixing tricks from Ulrich Wild, Cameron Webb and myself!

There were a ton of great questions, some of which I couldn’t get to during the live Q&A’s. Today’s video is a roundup of all of your questions about low end, kick drum and bass guitar.

As an record engineer/producer, if you possess the cognitive ability to even ask yourself "What just happened?", you are in the right field of work. Magic moments are gold!

Your comment about being a little terrified and overwhelmed was spot on. Thanks Warren!

I love limiters on delay returns. They keep the effect in its place and control the feedback in a very nice way.

Making a note to self: compressor before dynamics, then limiter to dynamics. 😀

The limiter I use the most is the Brainworx bx_XL.

Best FAQ Friday yet! Yes yes, we want to hear 3 piece indie guys whose playing made mincemeat of a click!
You crapping yourself recording all those great musicians was worth it's weight in gold...fantastic stuff, and a great lesson . The self-taught bit was great as well, and yes PLAP is like a great mentor...mission accomplished, week after week!

Thanks for the video Warren! I have another question, my home studio doesn’t have the best acoustic treatment, how can I double check the level of kick and bass?

What you say at 30:24ish on your last video (from yesterday) couldn't be more true! The last couple videos you've posted have been incredible....truly feel like I am in University taking a course in music...please keep doing what you're doing, it's amazing stuff, and you are helping a lot of people become more confident recording, editing, and making music. Thanks for all the work you put into these videos!

For good free limiters check out W1 Limiter (developped by the creator of the L1 actually), and LoudMax (a copy of the L1).
Also Limiter n°6 is quite good for quick mastering, by the creator of the very good Molot compressor.

Hey Warren, if you're able to remember the name of that trio you mentioned in discussing your most interesting project, I would love to look them up! Sounds really interesting.

Another very informative video sir! I have a question and it is this: How would you go about recording a crowd of people singing a part of a song, or atleast making part of a verse/chorus sound like it was being sang by a crowd? I heard you mention this in your breakdown of numb me up, but I can't really find that video...regardless, any feedback would be alot of help!
