Breaking down Biden's immigration order for undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens

President Biden is set to unveil a sweeping immigration relief program that would offer legal protections to hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who are married to U.S. citizens. CBS News chief White House correspondent Nancy Cordes has more details on the program.

This is not new this just allows them to apply for residency asap. Because the normal way would be the Spouse would have to sponsor them and show proof of income and the undocumented would have to be seen by customs at an entry port to get the entry stamp on their passport to be compliant. Once you have the stamp the rest is streamlined. All this new policy does is remove the requirement of getting the i-94 stamp on their passport. Again nothing new other than removing the arrival/departure stamp requirement. What they really need to address is securing the border to prevent migrants from crossing illegally and address those who actually did come here legally and have their I-94 and over stayed their visas. Amnesty for undocumented is not a solution or path to citizenship. If all they want is work then the most the US should do or even consider id work permit and only offer conditional residency after 5 years and then have conditional residency for 10 years at which point it can be residency without the possibility of citizenship. Citizenship should only be for those who came here and followed protocol.

I had always been told that Mexicans who crossed over illegally, regardless of age, were unable to marry US citizens. They had to go back to Mexico and apply to come in legally. So are all these people from Venezuela, Guatemala, etc. going to go back to their counties and wait to be admitted legally? Hard working, good people who have been in the US for over ten years should be offered citizenship first, regardless of marital status.
