Plot twist, Bruce didn't own the cafe, and Alfred was promptly arrested for trying to dine and dash.

I disagree. This scene is when Alfred was starting out as a dirty rotten scoundrel. This was his first big scam—dine and dash. It’s obvious.

Such a under appreciated part of the film. Alfred got his wish and didn’t want Bruce in Gotham, especially as he feels he failed his parents. The professionalism of Alfred not to talk to him but a simple nod to let him know he’s doing good great ending.
