The Big Picture : Regulating Social Media Influencers

Digital media influencers, Youtubers and celebrities promoting their favorite brands might have to be a bit more cautious going forward as a new draft regulation by the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) stipulates that all influencers will have to declare if a product or a service is being covered as part of a promotion. The guidelines say that advertising labels should be clearly visible for video content on all platforms, including mobile phones. For audio content, the disclosure will have to be announced before and after the content. In case of social platforms like Instagram, the guidelines suggest that the disclosure label be superimposed on the image. The content cannot be digitally manipulated to show the product in better light. Influencers will also need to verify whether the claims being made in the advertisement are valid and can be substantiated. The guidelines are similar to the Federal Trade commission guidelines in the United States. The draft proposal is up for public debate till March 8 and is expected to be rolled out by April 15. In this edition of The Big Picture we will analyse the draft regulations for social media influencers.

In recent decades we have seen how social media influencer, influence the mass across the globe as we consider facebook, twitter etc. people get influence if the content is matching with their ideology and thought. some of the influencer are doing constructive work but somewhere few of them aline with destructive work on the social media platform. for a instance we have seen the protest recently in Delhi. we need proper mechanism to curb any ideology against security and sovereignty, integrity of india. However some rule and regulations we have, despite that they are Ineffective on the platform .now social media need to adhere their responsibility if any miss guide is replicate through such social platforms.

That is a great idea. Look how Social media endorses brands and it's claim sometimes can be misleading..It is in interest of both the influencer and consumer that such draft comes in place...

Please make the laws who are using fraud documents in mobile number and opened bank account for cheating, in Rural areas people are not technically educated and they are being cheated through phone calls..
