One of the things that makes joe a good pod cast host is that he’s very adaptive, socialization is like a sport except the ball is the conversation. Joe is really good a slowing down his rhythm of thought to match the speed of the guest, that’s why it never feels awkward because he’s able to get in the same rhythm of socialization as the host which makes the audience and the guest feel comfortable.

The aliens were actually forced to bring him on board in order to save him. His proximity to the craft as it was taking off, injured him. They didn't "abduct" him, they saved him. He was likely mortally injured as he described, they healed him.
