For me, this was Marlon Brando's best performance ever.

What made Brando so great was he has this gift to find the truth of a scene. There are so many actors that can do everything else Brando can, but they can’t find the truth as well as he can

Brando based his portrayal of Kowalski on the boxer Rocky Graziano, whom he had studied at a local gymnasium. Graziano did not know who Brando was, but attended the production with tickets provided by the young man. He said, "The curtain went up and on the stage is that son of a bitch from the gym, and he's playing me.

Brando played this part on stage for months, before this movie was made.  I read that he did it sightly differently every night, and every time his fellow actors felt terrified. - Nanaimo, B. C. Canada.

Fun story: perhaps as a result of playing Stanley, Brando began to think of himself as a legit tough guy and took to boxing to pass time between scenes. One night he dragged some hapless stage hand into practicing with him, but the poor fellow kept holding back. Annoyed, Brando was about to berate him when the fellow nailed him square in the face and destroyed his nose. With no time for treatment, he had to go do his scenes with blood pouring down his face. By the time the show was over, he felt like he was going to pass out from blood loss.  He spent a week in the hospital recovering afterward and enjoyed himself seducing all the nurses.

God, yes... I wish!!! I haven't seen anything hotter than Brando is in this film!

He had good reason to get mad here. No one should be talked in that manner.

I think this scene is a great example of demonstrating why Marlon Brando was such an important and incredibly influential actor. This is the kind of great acting that we now see today that he had brought to films in those days. He changed acting. It was new and something people had not experienced before.

An old “saying” was: there was acting and then there was Marlon Brando. And that’s obviously true.👏

I've always been in love with the little speech impairment Marlon had. God, he's so handsome.

Any man can throw things around, what people also need to see is a man that can do that AND provide, protect, and be a loving presence for his family.

Damn, I can just never get enough of this story. Even though the stage version is obviously superior to the film, the film is still so powerful. This is a particularly great scene. Blanche is one of my dream roles.... <3 Also, I love the way this clip is titled. XD

He supposedly saved the brilliant performance for the stage version. Can you imagine?
