What will NASA's Perseverance Rover Test On Mars? Mission Overview (SpaceFix) 4K

On July 30th 2020, NASA launched the next generation of robotic explorers to the red planet, Mars.
For around seven months, the Perseverance rover travelled through the cold darkness of space, until on the 18th of February 2021, it arrived and began its 7 minutes of terror.
Striking the thin dusty martian atmosphere at nearly 12,500 miles per hour, which 20,000 kilometres an hour, the spacecraft slammed on its brakes, reduced its speed and thankfully settled safely on the sands of another world. Now the fun starts.

Think of just the calculations of speed and trajectory that are necessary to reach Mars, but to land safely and right on the mark. They can't send immediate signals for course correction, but have to deal with a lag time of minutes. This always amazes me.

I remember when I was at the Kennedy Space Center during Space Camp, and there was an exhibit showing off the previous martian rover at the time, and to see an upgraded version of it touching down for a brand new mission almost makes me want to tear up. God Speed Perseverance!

Man, this is so beautiful. The first Mars mission I will actually be old enough to remember from the beginning! NASA is very capable of this mission and let's hope we can safely bring back Martian samples to Earth in the near future. You got this, Perseverance and Ingenuity! We love you! 🥳❤✌
