This is a masterpiece. I secured $200mil after applying this technique! People hate me for it!

A procedurally generated open world could be feasible and interesting … perhaps

Or a small scale open world; like ‘a short hike’

I strongly recommend "Open World Game: the Open World Game". (That's the name.)
It seriously reminds people just how average Open world game doesn't really have game at all.
Why would so many people bother trying to make such dull experience?

Since "AAA" literally means "this company is wealthy enough to absorb any failures and pay back its debts no matter what", the idea of an "Indie AAA" is laughably stupid.

LOL, though it would be nice to have a followup reality check video on why a indie dev/team can't make a AAA open world game, money not withstanding.

I know it was meant for fun, I also had dreams of a big project (10 years back - still not finished😁). But in real I think that some people can make big open world games without big budget. It is not going to be AAA, but it can be great. When I look at famous indie games (not SuperRunner3000, but real big games, for example Len's Island, Sunless Sea, Art of Rally, etc.), those games started as a small project of enthusiastic people. It takes time, knowledge and patience to create something bigger.

step 1) you can't and probably never will have the money necessary
step 2) contempt
step 3) learn to use your limitations as a way to flourish creativity and uniqueness
step 4) ????
step 5) happiness?

It's totally possible to make a huge open world game as an indie.
Step 1: Become enlightened enough to give up on the idea of AAA graphics.
Step 2: Become even more enlightened enough to give up on the idea of 3D graphics.
Step 3: Make a 2D open world game with pixel graphics. Duh.

I would love to see a procedural open world with a seeded generation, something that could generate "Lost Temples" and such.
i feel like learning procedural generation would be better than trying to be a team of 500 people(Im only 1 person... idk about other people.) and somehow have the money to do all that.

that being said, nothing is impossible but if a game would normally take a team of 500 people 2 years to finish. i wonder how long it would take 1 person who works full time and only devs on the weekends.

I don't understand why an open world game is too much trouble for so many people

Isn't it just a normal game with less loading screens?
