This scene has so many trials and tribulations between our beloved characters. Don’t go to bed angry you never know if that’s the last time you could see that one person. This is coming from someone who has been married for 29 years now. I am very happy 😊 as the scenes progressed they found each other again 🥰🥰

Part of me wishes that after he went to sleep, she went to his desk to write. She writes him a letter explaining more. And in the morning after she leaves then he goes to the desk to find the letter. And the letter written with these words.

“I don’t know where to begin, Colin. I usually know exactly where to begin. Now suddenly I don’t until Marina came into my head. The next night, I told you about the man she still loved and you still wanted to marry her all the same, I waited until Marian got back. I saw her bags packed, knowing you and her were going to do a swift marriage ceremony. I begged her not to entrap you. I asked her what she would do when you found out that the child was not yours. I knew you would found out sooner or later. She said that what she would do is live safe in the knowledge that you were going to be a good kind husband and you would not abandon her or the child, come what may.”
“She did not care how entrapping you would change you, not truly loving you as she claimed to, only using you for security, nothing more. I asked her about you again, knowing for certain that she had not true feelings for you as I thought. Then she realized my love for you. I tried to deny it but I could not hide it no matter how hard I tried from her. She told me that you see her as a wife, a woman and you would never see me like that. And you would only ever see me the way you do Eloise or even little Hyacinth. My love was an unrequited fantasy. Her words crushed me to the point I used what little strength I had left to write the truth about her in LW. She arrived to the city with child the very first day arrived. It broke my heart so much that I went to Eloise crying my heart out.”
“I knew how much social ruin my family would endure because of it. I knew it would be for a short while compared to the ruin if you went through marrying Marina. I could not live with myself knowing you and your entire good family would suffer knowing Marina entrapped you and you would be forced to raise another’s man child. I knew deep down that it would twist you up in blindly loving Marina then learning she never loved you. And your family having no choice but to let her be a part of the family. Your mother would never put an innocent child out of the street. Anthony would want her gone but I have no doubt you would convince him otherwise. Then you would go away on your travels, never knowing if you would ever return home again to a loveless marriage.”
“The thought of that life for you pained me far greater than revealing the truth of Marina. I wrote what I wrote to save you and your family while sacrificing my own. I knew your pride and heart would hurt for a long while but eventually the man I loved would recovery from the pain. I am able to live with the knowledge that it all worked out for the best with Marina and her children.”
“As for what I wrote about Eloise, at the time I felt like I had no other option since Queen Charlotte believed Eloise to be LW. I did think about going to QC however i had doubts of the Queen truly believing me. And QC punishing Eloise and your entire family for it. So I wrote that she went to those Polictical hearings. I knew it would be enough for QC to believe Eloise was not LW, saving her and the rest of your family. I knew that writing about Eloise would bring social society ruin for a little while and over time it would pass with more gossip.”
“Then after hearing what you said at my mother’s ball last season about never courting me and seeing how much you changed from your travels at the start of the season, I did not know what to do but look ahead, change my dresses in the hopes of the marriage mart helping me to find a husband. Then Cressida purposefully stepped on my dress, being cruel while Eloise stood by letting it happen. I left the ballroom early when you came. All of my frustration and helplessness flooded out when I spoke to you about your words at the end of last season. I went home and wrote what I wrote about you in the hopes that the man I knew was still within you or the man you returned as was truly the new you. I am sorry for all I have written. LW has been the only source of power, strength, and passion in my life. It is my life’s work and all I have had to keep going in society especially now in how you feel toward me and what our marriage is becoming.”
“All in all, if speaking was not possible between us, I still believe you deserve to know the truth even if it is through parchment ink. I love you, Colin. And I hope one day you will love me in return. Until then, I will be waiting. Yours truly, Penelope.”

I imagine how much that would open Colin’s eyes quicker if he knew further details about that. I even imagine he would reread the letter like that over and over again. Then go straight to her letters he kept over the time of his travels. While making this scene all the more compelling. Apologies for the long comment. Thanks for uploading.

I kept rewinding - wanted to notice something in the background but then Colinned and kept getting distracted by Nicola’s perfect skin.

Although Colin was trying to grasp his feelings and pull himself together, I personally believe that apart of him decided to sleep on the sofa to protect Penelope from anyone entering their house at night, particularly Cressida or even the Queen’s guards. After all, QC was close in finding who LW is in the family and who says that she can’t just send some men to retrieve Pen for her. So I’d like to think Colin also sleeping on the sofa was so he could stand guard until the LW stuff was over.

You could tell he was tempted to go to bed with penelope and have thier romantic moment then have thier much needed chat in the morning but he decided to act like a child and sleep on the sofa and you could tell he regretted it the next morning he wanted to wake up next to his new wife and have a cuddle with her

Missed opportunity to make love & resolve matters . Season 3 part 2 from epi 5 to 8 was whack in too many parts 💔🥲
