I cracked my Surface Duo and the bumpers are making everything worse

Lesson learned: 1. Buy insurance when you purchase Duo so when you drop it you get a replacement or 2. Wait for Duo 2 so these type of bugs are worked out.

I have the phone mode issue too where the back does not turn off. The camera shutter delay matched with the awful sensor detecting what side the camera is makes the camera virtually useless. Those have been my only real issues. I think they should turn off all motion sensors when using camera and just have a flip button... The auto detect is so bad on the camera

Maybe because you dropped it, the hinge might have become sensitive that it mistakes hinge open or close etc. The bumper adds weight a bit maybe

I have had my bumper on since I purchased my Duo, i thought the screen not going off in phone mode or some times the screens not coming on were just software issues I have been waiting to get updated.
When both of my screens come on in phone mode, I have to close the device to basically reset them.

As you swing the duo into phone mode from book mode, I'm thinking the bumper close to the hinge area produces leveraging and prize the two surfaces apart down by the hinge...maybe that is the problem. Could be that if you shave the bumper thinner, on the edges close to the hinged side, it will close properly and not hyper extend the two surfaces.

I've noticed that the hinge feels gritty when opening quickly. I don't notice it if opened slower.

I dropped mine and lost somme glass shards and didnt use a skin... regretting that cuz now i need to figure out how to get the skin on withe a damn hole in the back

Bluetooth randomly connects when I dont want it to. Switching to speaker doesnt work and seems to stay connected to BT even after I have turned off BT. This only happens while taking a call so it's difficult to reproduce on purpose

Where can I buy the back cover of the Microsoft Surface Duo, it broke and I have not been able to find it.

Shane, I bought a SD2 in 2022. It's included bumpers are slightly more smooth than the SD2 bumpers that came with the SD1 that I purchased in 2021. So it's more pocketable. The problem with both screens staying on is back tho. Therefore that right bumper is gone.

So I have an additional left bumper from 1.5 years ago. When on the right side, switching to book mode was reliable once more. Next I'm considering how to cut that bumper for the necessary cutouts, such as fingerprint reader and buttons. It already has a cutout for the mic and will cover the full width of the buttom passed the USB port.

More then once now, i am using the Duo and a call comes in… and nothing on screen allows me to answer the incoming call. I have to let the call go to VM. Then get out of what i am going on the Duo to get to the phone app… doesn’t happen often

Did you know that you can take off your skin and put it back again i have 2 color black and red i swap them most of the time.

Black bars flickering down the screen, like how it looks when you take a photo of a tv with a camera. That became an issue for me after I activated bed time mode

What's happening is that the duo has magnetic fields which connect to both ends of the screen and since the bumper has a silicon base material it is preventing the magnetic connection which is causing issues with the phone function

I squeeze the phone so it recognized which side I'm on. 1. Launcher crashes 2. You can only power off the phone if it is closed. If it's open it only restarts 3. All the other glitches

So far just about the same issues with the screens. I do have my bumper on. The other issue I have is the camera after two or three pics it kicks me out. Says "camera stopped working"

I have had my bumper on since day one and yes you are 💯 right but you get use to how to use it with bumper and you find out how to not cause the glitches to occur if that makes sense.

I think the magnets in the edges may be affected by the bumper and whatever happens to let the Duo know it's folded...and in combination with the shock to the floor...?? My old Surface Pro started to have issues when I gently bounced it into my briefcase. Shocking!! These are sensitive little doodads, no?
Oh, I too have that spacing occur in my home screens. That seems to happen when a swipe gesture goes awry. Turning gestures off helped that one.
