I love Bob's character. How low-key, quiet and aloof, almost autistic, he seems. He's a smart man, a capable man, a man of some principle and values, who happened to end up in an environment, where if he happened to show his smarts, energy and ability, morons and assholes he was surrounded with would quickly find a way to hurt him or kill him.

By nature, he was smarter than the rest and destined to stand out, but because the rest around him was so overwhelmingly immoral and low-life, he could choose either to a) openly be himself and attract a lot of attention, or b) put on an act of a quiet, simpleton, pushover so the others would leave him alone.

No one saw Bob coming.
The fact that Matthias Schoenaerts stands his ground in this movie only speaks for his incredible quality as an actor. Great movie.

I love rewatching this movie and seeing the subtle hints that Bob isn't actually in the least bit intimidated, I completely missed them first time around and a second viewing shows hardys brilliance

To be clear, Eric Deeds actually WAS a murderer, ....he just took credit for something he didnt do, very stupid. But I think Schoenearts is superb here.
