The Young Turks were a prominent political movement in the late Ottoman Empire, emerging in the early 20th century. Comprising mostly of educated, young intellectuals and military officers, they sought to modernize and reform the empire, advocating for constitutionalism, secularism, and nationalism. Their efforts culminated in the Young Turk Revolution of 1908, which led to the restoration of the Ottoman Constitution and the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP) gaining power.
This also led to the deposing of Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
However, their nationalist policies turned off other groups within the Empire, particularly the Arabs. When Sharif Hussein ibn Ali became governor of Mecca, he realized he could not trust the Young Turks.
