I also use "allintext:" to ensure all text is within the body and not on titles or referenced by other links.
Also, you can enable verbatim search from options menu to ensure that synonyms or other similar meanings are NOT searched for, just the text you entered (ie: don't be smart mode)

Great video. This is the stuff that should be taught in high school and re-iterated when starting any white-color job.
I especially like your line: "Don't thank me, send money". I found it funny from my peculiar sense of humor, but really think people (like you) who explain these powerful things to the mass internet deserve some compensation/recognition for your effort. Anyway, happy 2023!

I remember using intitle a lot early on. Back then you could find solid directory listings that contained music or whatever, so 'intitle:"index of"' was a pretty good way to find files. A lot of shady sites started catching on and building fake index pages that would just lead to various ad sites.

"Don't thank me, send money.." Priceless!

You learn something new every day! Thank you for this. I used to use these terms in another lifetime in database searching - funny how you forget that the web is just a very large database.
Keep 'em coming Dave and thank you again.

Thanks for this, Dave. I spend hours searching through the numerous irrelevant replies that Google gives to my searches.

Thanks Dave. I'll view the video again to take some notes. Very helpful. I knew about some of these but simply forgot and continue to search like a heathen.

Dave, thank you once more for a great video! You're one of the ABSOLUTE BEST presenters and this is why I can always rely on recommending one of your videos, or your channel, to a friend or colleague and know they'll enjoy and learn from the content! Your home tour video, for instance, was fantastic and helped a lot of my friends see benefits of separating "home computer section" from "work computer section" in their homes. Everyone likes your lights, too!

The key words define: and site: are among my favorite ones that I've used commonly for years. Also "calc" is handy in a pinch.

Thank you for making this video. I agree with you 100% on Amazon searches. I find their searching function to be very annoying when I know exactly what I am searching for, but I get far too many things in the list that I do not want. It would be nice for them to add some of these features like the " ", + and -. Especially like the pipe operator tip.

The tip about searching Amazon like that is a top tip. Both Amazon and AliExpress have shockingly bad searches designed to push everything into your eyes in the hope you order something.

Bless you Dave, some of these I knew about and just forgot/forget to use and some I wasn't aware of, NOW, IF I can only remember to use them when the need arises. Again, THANK YOU!!!

I love how you used Saskatchewan as an example. I married a Regina girl and I’m lucky to live here with my British roots newly planted!

What I really need is a way to turn off google's tendency to automatically edit my search. The plus operator and quotes are the tools I use the most, but google often decides, somehow, that there are not enough results and automatically switches to the same search WITHOUT the plus or quotes. I don't mind a suggestion, but I usually know better than google what I'm really searching for.

Thank you for the refresher! I had forgotten about the parentheses :D
I first learned about this back in the Altavista days. They had a dedicated page with the search operators, it helped *a lot* back in the day where search results weren't as good as nowadays google. I still use them to narrow searches :D
Happy holidays from Greece!

Dave, would you consider doing a series on prompting? Learning to talk to chat GPT, Dall-e, midJourney, is a super hot topic and also soon to be the new Google Search in many ways. I think with your knowhow, it'd be incredibly successful. Twenty years ago I didn't have this video to learn Google Search properly. This around, with AI, I'm counting on you! Cheers from Vancouver :)
