MY HOSPITAL VS BIRTH CENTER EXPERIENCE | MIDWIFE OR OBGYN??? WHICH WAS BETTER???
Hey! Today I will be sharing my hospital vs birth center experience. Now that I have experienced both, I would definitely chose to give birth at a birthing center If I had to do it all over again. In this video, I provided five reasons why I favored my birth center experience over my hospital birth. I hope this video is helpful. Thank you for watching. My first birth experience was with a hospital and second is going to be through a birth center (attached to a hospital) with a midwife. As long as I don’t have complications the doctors at the hospital won’t have to interfere. Like you, for my first experience I wanted a natural birth and had to turn down options for pitocin, pain medication (even after the birth when I told them over and over my pain level was like a 1 on the scale and I had no tearing; they were still trying to push heavy meds on me). I had a doula with me but it was like I had to go to battle and she was a bodyguard vs me being in the moment. I delivered with no meds but I felt like I couldn’t trust the folks around me. I just did a virtual tour of the birthing center and I’m so excited! I’ve already switched to a midwife and even the questions she asks at our appointments are so much more personalized. She mentioned how they want to help with some of the root causes for improper care of black women (she’s white), and she offered additional services. She asked about what’s going on outside my pregnancy. Because I’m over 35 I still “had” to see a doctor at the hospital and the doctor is my previous gyn. She was short with me and just not someone I want to be involved with delivery. I’m already more excited to give birth at a birthing center, just praying my blood pressure stays low and I don’t develop gestational diabetes so I’m not considered high risk.

Thanks for sharing this video. My wife had 2 hospital births with a low risk pregnancy: first emergency c section, 2nd born - VBAC, and is pregnant with our 3rd. She is starting to consider giving birth at a birthing center and I think she would appreciate this video for courage to make that decision :)

Future dad here, trying to figure out how to support my wife. Thank you for sharing your story and I’m happy to know that you had healthy labors.

Did you have to rotate and meet all the midwives throughout your pregnancy appointments or did you get assigned to one? This is my 2nd baby and i really want personal connection and i didnt get that with my ob. Im hoping to get that with a midwife but i dont think its possible having to rotate through midwives.
