This is my mini dsp review. The mini dsp can do equalization, room correction and works as an active crossover.

Amazing! I have a pair of LS50 too, maybe I should try this!

I have the same dsp, feeding a powered sub and I can attest integration of the sub to the ls50 is awesome

I would still prefer the Kef LSX in a setup like this. But its good to learn about the DSP.

My kid threw a party while I was out of town and actually blew out one of my LS50s. Literally blew it out - the driver material was ripped. I ordered a replacement driver from China and other than now one is blue and the other orange - good as new. I think this setup you are proposing could actually protect the LS50s if you play loud.

Had same problem with my LS50s in a stereo turntable setup, they really suffer if placed close to a wall. Bass management is the answer and the MINIDSP gets the job done. My solution was easier though, I just hooked them to an old Yamaha 1020 Aventage AVR and the YPAO room correction took care of it.

Thanks dude. I'd forgotten all about those. I've been using Equalizer APO to correct my room, but the trouble is, DAWs don't like it! Queue the problems.

Just want to say that you have a good system, but it is poorly optimized in its integration with the space, place the secretary / speakers in front of the wall on the left side, or leave it where it is but centered, so the speakers will be the same distance from the side wall, this is a point without discussion, it will greatly improve the soundstage and imaging . :)

The SVS SB-1000 and the Emotiva SE8 Flex sub woofers but have high pass filter built into their low level I/O. (There are others but I have personal experience with these two.) The SB-1000 cross over is fixed at 80Hz. The SE8 is switchable to 60, 80, 100Hz. The signal is blocked if the SB-1000 is switched off, the SE8 will pass through the signal when off. No way to disable the filter when they are on, so you can't use the low level I/O to daisy chain these subs.

I have a similar setup with my KEF R100 but in a desk setup they don’t really need a sub (I’m also using port plugs) imho

I have an LS50 and spent years trying to see if it would be best to keep them as my Left/Right/Center in my home theater setup or take two of them and make them my left/right in my computer set up. Always the issue was, how do I get speaker wires to my LS50 while also ensuring I have a clean desktop setup.

The obvious answer really is LS50w or the smaller lsx since you don't need speaker wires. LS50w accept usb input directly, which was great and has a sub out. BUT.. its 2499; during heavy christmas season sales, you can find it for 1799. That's a lot of money for desktop.

I also have a descent pair of headphones, and if you do then you will be playing with the need for amp and dac and all these things take up space on your desk.

I find the easiest solution really is to just go with powered speakers, which is essentially was the LS50w was; but you can find cheaper studio monitors with excellent sounds without the need for any of the above. I don't have a sub yet, but you if i were to get a studio sub, I could let the sub do the high past filtering; where it sends 80hz or above to the studio monitor and it plays <80hz. So ultimately. it is RME ADI-2 dac; with XLR to Hedd type 05. minimal cords, dac and amp are in 1 unit so that I can listen to headphones, and if i get a sub, it is easy to implement, while still having a clean clutter free desktop.

If you have a hump in your sound, the subwoofer is too loud. Don't roll-off the LS, roll-off the sub more to 60Hz or so.

I’m in the exact same situation! I literally have the same black edition ls50’s on a desk with the same issues. Only problem is that i’m using an nr1200 which is an integrated without bass management. I’ve had the lsx but i had too many issues, then i bought the ls50 for €600 new and i’m glad i did. Maybe ill get the xtz icepower amp and a minidsp since my marantz has preouts🤔🤔

MiniDsp converts analog to digital then back to analog. Did you find any reduction of audio quality when you did this. Nanodigi don't convert digital to analog I think

I am quite new to this hobby and until now i thought if you set the crossover frequency on you subwoofer to lets say 80HZ the speaker would not play sound beneath 80 HZ. Am I wrong? So the only way to "take off the load" off of the main speakers and not have them play the lower frequencies is with a DSP? Im confused :D FYI I have my sub connected directly to my power amplifier with speaker cables.
