THANK YOU SO MUCH !
Woke up to zero hot water and immediately saw my water heater was cold. Zero status light! Broke out my trusty Voltage Meter / Ohm Meter & checked the ohms and voltage on the ignitor coming out of the controller (good voltage, no open circuit) held / pushed the pilot control / temp dial and saw that the voltage was climbing (had good and proper voltage) was just gonna tear into the circuit board when i saw your video.
HOLY HELL, IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!
*For those still trying to figure out how to get the status light to light with no pilot flame. Hit the ignitor button about 30 times and it charges the circuitry of the mother board. The status light will stay on and blink the proper code for about 30 - 40 seconds. More than enough time to reset the motherboard with the solution Marcos presented in the above Video.

I couldn't even get my pilot to light. Took out burner and cleaned thermopile, made sure pilot light tube wasn't blocked, reinstalled burner and still nothing. Just to be clear - There can be NO status light when there is no pilot! - But... after doing this procedure I was able to light the pilot. No the pilot doesn't magically light itself. You still have to hold down the valve and press the ignitor. But it actually does work! Thanks for posting!!

Bravo! It worked for me as well, a little different . Hold Pilot till u get a blink light, release pilot, then move knob to very hot, for 10 seconds, move to hot, and it came on all by itself.

thank you so so very much for these instructions!(and to whoever left that comment that prompted u to try it!) this is still the ONLY video that mentions this reset process, and its the ONLY thing that gets my pilot light to start. ive come back to this video three times now to review the order of steps. Same as u mentioned i'd attempt pushing the knob in and clicking away, turn off & wait 10min, try again, hour after hour. i now know to just do this first. it absolutely will never click on until i do this reset process.
i dont understand why its not mentioned on the side instructions on the actual heater among the pilot lighting steps; its clearly/apparently the way its designed to work. but just says after so many failed attempts to call a professional... same as another commenter said, i said a prayer and came across your video

Your directions worked perfectly in short order....2nd time I did this over the past 6 months. Whirlpool Gas Water Heater
Model: N40S61-403 was purchased in 2007. About 5 years ago, Honeywell controller pilot would light....called Whirlpool and they sent to me a 'complimentary' new Honeywell pilot controller...cost me $10 for fine until beginning of this year...but pilot went out in January and again today. once again, your instructions got these going again. Thank you for posting this excellent video tutorial...which is keeping this 13 year old 40 gallon water heater limping along.

This worked! About to call for service and decided to watch some youtube videos first. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Also for the people saying the indicator light wont blink without pilot being lit, it will light up after you repeatedly push the ignite button (about 20 or so times) and then you can try this! Thanks again!

This Christmas Eve our not too old water heater decided to quit. I tried to ignite the pilot with no success of getting it to fire up but got the four flashes of the led. Saw a couple videos taking unit apart to replace or reset unit. Came across this one and gave it a try and it worked! I am sure it saved me an expensive service call and embarrassment of how simple this was. Thanks.

Unbelievable !!! We had this problem on a Friday night after 7pm. We realized that we got this 4 repeating lights error code: High temperature shut off. We stumbled on this video and thought that the author is pulling our leg. It turned out that it worked like a charm. Much appreciate your generosity of sharing this info. Much blessing to you. It is amazing to me how you figured this out then shared with us. Thanks again. !!!!

Was a bit skeptical about the rest process in this video but sure enough it worked. I was actually having trouble getting my pilot to light but it turns out I just wasn’t clicking the igniter for long enough. After watching the video I tried again and got the pilot to light, then had the 4 flashes like you said. Flipped it to very hot for 10 seconds (and it actually lit the burner almost immediately) then to hot for 10 seconds, then pilot for 10 seconds (burner shut off during this part) then back to hot and it lit the burner once again. Very shortly after that the flashing changed to single flashes for normal operation. Thanks for the info!

It worked 🎉. I thought give it a try. What can it hurt. First try after many failed attempts. Now hope it stays working. Thank you for this easy to follow instructions. 👍🥰

Thanks for posting this. It worked for me. After I finally got the LED status light to start blinking, it blinked 7 times indicating a the gas valve electronic has fault. I reset per your procedures and the pilot/flame restarted within a minute.
