In this video we demonstrate the capabilities of the UnRAID Network Attached Storage Operating System. UnRAID is one of the best NAS OS that you can use for you own NAS setup at home because it very easy to setup and use. UnRAID is also using an amazing technique for the backup system, which the parity drive system. With one HDD you can essentially cover your whole storage array if any HDD would fail. You simply plug in a new HDD to replace the dead HDD and the parity drive will rebuild the that HDD with the information that was on the dead HDD. This is one of the main arguments to use UnRAID as your NAS OS because this way you want waste one HDD per each HDD which regular conventional RAID NAS OS system uses. This also means that you can plug out and plug in your HDDs from your storage array to any computer with the Linux OS and your drives will be fully readable. The parity drive does slow transfer speeds down which UnRAID has solved with a cache drive system which essentially bypasses the parity drive during the day which allows fast transfer speeds for then later at night back it up to the parity drive. Watch this video to see much more arguments to as why you should use UnRAID as your NAS OS!

You can set the mover schedule for your cache drive(s) to be shorter than 1 day. I have mine set to every hour.

Thanks for making this video about Unraid. I do have question as to Unraid having mobile app to auto backup photos from your phone and other apps like the Synology does. I had a Synology NAS which worked great but it went dead and I'm looking to build my own system to where if something happens, I can fix it. Also what type of raid card can I use to install in the pc to give me more hard drive space? I want to setup a 20 hard drive NAS to backup all my photos and media from years of collections. I don't want to lose any of it. Again thank you for your kind words and support.

You need to understand RAID and parity better mate. You don't need one parity drive for one drive. Look up RAID 5.
