We saw this ability used in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. It's called tutaminis, or more commonly Force absorption.

Best part is it doesn’t drain yoda’s stamina. Had a pvp match and I just stood there deflecting it till he realized he couldn’t do anything and walked away

Tutaminus is the name of this power and it can be used to absorb blaster bolts, lightning, and even catch or deflect lightsaber blades as it's main function is to use the force to absorb, contain, and manipulate energy and is seen as a neutral power but its strength varies on the force connection of the user. To catch Palpatine's lightning one would have to be very powerful because he is also very powerful.
