How To Use An EpiPen

Показать описание
How do you use an EpiPen? This is an incredibly important skill that can actually help you save someone's life in an emergency. So I'm really happy that people are sharing, commenting, and liking on these kind of videos, because again, this can actually help you save your friend or family members' life in an emergency.
So an EpiPen delivers adrenaline or epinephrine in an emergency. So if someone's having an allergy reaction to a medication, food, or immunotherapy, by delivering an EpiPen, you can save their life. So let's get to it.
So, first things first. Thankfully, they make it incredibly easy to use. They literally put the steps, one, two, three, on the EpiPen. So you pull the pin, you eject it into the lateral part of the thigh, and then you hold it there for three seconds. So let's go through it. First things first. Blue to the sky, orange to the thigh. Blue to the sky, orange to the thigh. So you pull the pin, then, you go ahead and you hold it.
If you're gonna put your thumb somewhere, put it here. Don't put it here because you'll get a needle in it. Put your thumb on the top, then you inject it into the lateral part of somebody's thigh. This is a trainer.
So, once you put it into their thigh, you're gonna hold it there for three to five seconds. I would tell people just count to five because in an emergency you're stressed, you're gonna be counting fast. You hold it there for five seconds, make sure the adrenaline is delivered, and then do not throw the pen away because the emergency medical services are gonna wanna know how much adrenaline has been injected so they can use it for their medical plan. Okay?
The other important thing is, no matter what, as soon as you use an EpiPen, you should have someone else be calling 911.
If you're in a situation where you think you need to use epinephrine, you need to call emergency services because again, epinephrine is gonna delay a bad allergy reaction from happening, but it's not the definitive care. If someone needs an EpiPen, they need 911 to be called.
Now, when should you use an EpiPen? Well, if someone you know is having an allergy reaction to food, peanuts, whatever, and they're having trouble breathing, if they feel like their throat is closing, if their color is going, if their blood pressure's dropping, anything that makes you worried, go ahead and use the EpiPen because you would rather be safe than sorry and call 911.
Okay. Also, shout out to Faith Pancoast for making these kind of videos. It's really exciting that people are learning how to use this and that this knowledge is being spread. If you'd like to learn more, please subscribe.
