I have been struggling with Pure-O for some years now, particularly illness OCD.

If you have similar experiences, you're not alone. Find a good psychiatrist, go to therapy, quit bad habits, avoid negative people, and tell yourself that you will make it through. Things will get better.

To anyone who's suffering from OCD, I suggest you to read "Freedom from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, by Dr. Jonathan Grayson", cover to cover.

TL;DR: The core of OCD is "Intolerance of Uncertainty". Find and name the uncertainties you cannot tolerate. Then, learn to live with them. You have no other choice.

Such a concise explanation of the illness.
In the past 4 years I have been unable to work due to OCD and chronic pain.
Over that time, my OCD has snowballed, just as you mentioned in the video.
Nearly everything i do has a ritual involved with it, handwashing is the worst offender.
Complete handwashing has taken me upward to 1 hour without stopping at its worst, generally it takes me 5 to 25 minutes to wash my hands 'the right way'.
It has destroyed my ability to function as an employee, and caused numerous arguments with family members and other people.
I hate it, and I wish I could just go back to normal.

I'm seeing a lot of comments of people saying their ocd is from being abused in some way whether mental or physical, but what about olif no one has ever abused you and you start being disgusted with pooping because you noticed marks in underwear and just never felt the same after that? Like ew, it's so gross, and I never realized how gross it was until now ... then can't stop thinking about it.... chemical imbalance?

I have watched interviews with seriel killers and from what some describe I think a lot of seriel killers have this. Many describe a similar state of mind but instead of obsessing over washing their hands 100 times a day it is killing someone.

I was wondering Is sleep restriction a part of an exposure therapy, in that a person faces their fear of sleeplessness every night ?

**Please stop using the abbreviation OCD (since this says it is a “disorder”); it’s disappointing that even many organizations that tend to be more progressive in supporting Neurodiverse individuals still use this abbreviation.*
