How to reset a BIOS password in 10 minutes

Today I am going to show you how to reset a BIOS password in a few minutes. Ever got in a situation where your computer was completely locked up after POST? Thankfully, I didn't, but here's how you could get in if you forgot the BIOS password. This method works 95% of the times, in rare cases some machines store passwords on separate chips, which requires different methods, for instance, shorting the pins. This really is manufacturer-specific, but that is the first thing you should try in case you got a brick locked behind a BIOS password.

While this already was mentioned in other comments, before you run out and put an unknown bios password on your computer. Keep in mind many newer motherboards keep the bios password separate from the settings. So removing the battery will not save you in all cases

A word of warning, resetting the bios battery on some laptops will not reset the bios password and might trigger a lock down, this is normally due to some laptops based on manufacture unique information storing the password data in other location(s) on the main board, so always check before trying, otherwise you will be wasting your time.

Good tips. The downside is that you may have to re-configure some BIOS settings for optimization purposes or for personal preferences (like the boot sequence, optical first, local drive first, etc.) Therefore it’s generally a good idea to check these things once in a while if possible before the need arises to remove the battery (which also comes in handy when the battery simply fails.)

You need to short the battery contacts too.
There are capacitors for this too.
Or 2 given contact on the motherboard.
It worked for me like that.

6:09 Yep, legacy BIOS boot mode is good for computers running on Windows 7 or earlier, whereas UEFI boot mode is best for computers running on Windows 8 or later versions. Incorrect boot mode may lead to an error message stating that there's no bootable device.

Tip:

Hiren's Boot CD (Older version) has a piece of software that does a few things to the BIOS settings and somehow forces it to reset and sometimes this triggers for the BIOS password to disappear

Sometimes there's a motherboard jumper as well to clear the password/reset BIOS settings
