Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

The W213 generation of Mercedes-Benz E-Class can make a great used buy. It's comfortable, quick, spacious, quiet, and full of useful technology. In this CarGurus used car review, Chris Knapman talks through what you need to know when looking at a used example of the W213.

Pros
Combines sophistication and comfort
Roomy and practical, especially the estate
Generously equipped, so long as you avoid the entry-level model

Cons
A BMW 5 Series or Jaguar XF is more exciting to drive
The AMG models are hugely expensive to run
Four-wheel-drive versions have worse fuel economy than rear-wheel-drive cars

A man from Mercedes telling us to buy a eclass makes a lot of sense

I had a new 17 plate E 22oD - kept for 3 years - one of the best cars ever- used to get 55+ mpg on motorway runs - only changed as too low for my old knees (access in & out)

A beautiful car . Navy blue is my favourite colour, perhaps a lighter shade of upholstery would have been nice .

Used to hate even a though of driving MB, but my company requires only MB so for two years been driving E220d as a chauffeur car, done around 80k, can say that never had unpleasant morning surprise, very dependable.
More than few times after hitting london craters thought that it will be end of tyres, rims, suspension but apparently as long as you have up to 18's and don't overinflate you can keep on driving no matter what.
Did rear end at 10 mph peugeot that moved off and suddenly stopped, got just few scratches in compare of half end gone for frenchy.
Bigger screen with sat nav works as kaleidoscope for customers and everyone seems to find comfortable position whenever they are in the back or front.
Overall would highly recommend to anyone, it's frugal, comfortable, pleasant to drive, quite fast, robust vehicle that really grew on me.

Hi guys, I would like a recommendation from you if possible. I'm thinking to buy the plug in hybrid E class but I'm concerned of the failure of the electric part of the car as I read about plug in hybrid Passat people complain it has major faults after passing the warranty, the repair bill was up to £3000. Can you please suggest which is better ? The E class with plug in ? Or the simple E220 ? Thank you guys in advance

get the 2016 E220d as it’s much cheaper now and if your not a fan of the steering wheel like me buy the 2018/19 steering wheel and get it fitted onto the 2016 one if that makes sense as in a huge fan of the steering wheels after 2018 and love the sporty ones on the GWagon but don’t like the new 2021 steering wheels as they’re too tacky. Other than that perfect car for short or long road trips space comfort and will always go for this over a 5 series and an Audi A6 !!

I'm looking at either an eclass v6 or a Cadillac CTS with the 2.0L i4 turbo, just with fuel being so expensive. What I'm worried about is cost of ownership on a Mercedes, but they're easier to find in my price range compared to the Cadillac. What does the cost of ownership look like on average per year?

I've driven 123, 700 km without any problems my 2017 s213 e220d, and at this time instantly appear AdBlue system warning sign on the dashboard. Well, the AdBlue liquid was half plain, good for more than 6.000 km to drive. I restart several times but the message changed to 800 km to go. I visited the official car dealer shop, checked by computer and they had informed me: "we have to change the AdBlue tank which cost you (eg. the owner) more than 1800 euro. the two sensors in the tank are irreplaceable separately". woow, I didn't expect from a very good condition car. Shame and blame for Mercedes!

I rented an e220d in Germany last year and it got 3.7l/100km cruising on the autobahn in 150km/h

Still the best car in its class by a landslide

I prefer the 3-spoke bagde the old way on the bonnet, not the way its integrated in the grile. And the particular car misses the good looking wood trim. This silver trim looks cheap.
