{Did God Command Balaam & then Become Upset?} Why does God get angry with Balaam in Numbers 22: 20-22 for going when it seems He just told him to go in verse 20?

I have prayed and believe the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to the meaning.
The NIV translation says "But God was very angry WHEN he went". This suggests God became angry at that point in the morning because of something that was done.

Knowing the character of God, we need to question, what does he usually get angry about? Mainly people not following his commands.
Which was his comand here? He said "Go, BUT only say what i tell you to say.."

I believe Balaam, that morning, as he was going, must have said something that was not what God told him. I am compelled to believe this because in the verses above Balaam is seen to almost misquote God's messages by saying "the Lord will not allow me to go" rather than explaining that the Israelites are blessed and the Lord will not curse them hence why he can't go.
It is not far-fetched to assume Balaam that morning must have agreed to go, allowing them to believe he would curse the isrealites, rather than explaining he will go but only do what the Lord says.

The going itself was not a problem, because the angel allowed him to go. Therefore It must've been something else that angered God i.e. Balaam deviating from strict commands. Thats why the angel rehiterated that he can go, but ONLY if he does what God says.

I don't think Balaam wanted the riches and wealth because he told balak that even if he was to give him his entire house full of silver and gold he couldn't say anything other than what the Lord would tell him.

I’ve been reading a one year bible that uses NIV . I was very confused when I read Numbers 22:20
That night God came to Balaam and said, “Since these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you.”

And then Numbers 22:21-22
21 Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey and went with the Moabite officials. 22 But God was very angry when he went…

I thought, wait, what happened here…? So I searched up why he got angry with Balaam after telling him to go.

That’s when I saw that the NKJV Numbers 22:20 reads this way:
“If these men come to summon you, rise up and go with them.”

So Balaam did not wait for the men to summon him as God had instructed. He simply got up in the morning and went.

Significant difference…
