Microsoft Excel Tutorial - Free Date Picker Tool - No Office 365 Required!

Welcome to Episode 2340 of the MrExcel netcast! Today, I have something amazing to share with you. And the best part? You don't even need to be on Office 365 to use it. Whether you're on the latest version of Excel or the world's oldest, this tool is available for you right now. It's something that you desperately need in your Excel arsenal - a date picker.

Now, let's take a closer look at this date picker. First off, you'll notice a date picker icon with options for today's date or the date and time. While you can easily get the current date with Ctrl+Semicolon, getting the current date and time is a bit more complicated (Ctrl+Shift+Colon then Ctrl+Semicolon). But with this date picker, it's just a single click away. And thanks to Sam, you can even add it to your Quick Access Toolbar for even quicker access.

But the real magic happens when you're working with cells that already have dates in them. The date picker will automatically appear and allow you to choose a date from a calendar view. You can even choose dates from future years by clicking on the year and scrolling through the options. And if you want to change the date, it's as easy as clicking on a different month and day. This feature is available in all versions of Excel from 2007 onwards.

Hey this is a really great app, BUT it comes with a really significant drawback that for me makes it a non-starter, and I think ought to be brought to peoples attention to allow them to make an informed decision as to whether to install it.
Every time you manipulate/create any date value, it executes a macro in order to implement the functionality of the add-in. This clears out all your Undo history, meaning that you cannot undo any mistakes or errors you have made prior to creating/modifying a date value. This can result in significant loss of work.
This is a damn shame, because it's otherwise a really slick add-in. For me personally this issue makes it too risky to use though.

WOW!! What a great find. This should be built into EXCEL. Thanks for sharing the link to this free tool and also the tips for using it. Thanks to Sam Rad for creating it. Thumbs up!!

Love it. Thanks for sharing Bill and thanks to SamRad. Also, love the tip about XLStart folder. I have been using folder to hold my addins. What a pain navigating to that each time. The C:\XLStart makes it MUCH easier.

This is really nice! I was pleasantly suprised when it realized my system is set to German and used the dd.mm.yyyy format. Thank you for the tip and of course a huge thank-you to Sam!!!

Brilliant !!!! Even better, the calendar next to the cells is in the System's language (in my case I've got Excel in Greek, so it's loading the Greek calendar). PERFECT ! 🗓

Your classes are great! i love it. Is there a way to filter between times? Say for instance, I have a courier team who drives medical supplies back and forth all day. So we have 1st shift, 2nd shift, 3rd shift, overnight and weekend shift. I have 6 months worth of data and i was trying to see overnight shift only. So i wanted to filter it to where i only see routes picking up items from 10:30pm to 7:00am. Is this possible? do you have a tutorial on how to do that if it is possible? Please advise. :)

I've written a userform with macros with the same functionality five years ago, one department of my company uses it on daily basis.

Do you have the instructions for installing on Microsoft Excel for Mac. I have done it before on one of my old MacBook Pro, and worked great but now I am using my new iMac and although installation was fine, when I click the Date Picker icon, I get an error: "Run-Time error '53': File not found:user32. Could you please help me on solving this problem? Thanks.
