More snoozefest locations from Zelda, except they're all secretly very interesting.

This is a great budgeting app. There are other options, but Rocket Money has lots of excellent features that those other ones don’t. You can try it for yourself. Budgeting is an OP activity. That’s my opinion. But I’m a real nerd who likes to use my brain so take that with a grain of salt.

I actually really like how this video turned out. I was iffy on it earlier but I think we covered a lot of great ideas and saw a lot of great boring places. What other games have great boring places that would be fun to talk about?

My daughter was 4 when the game came out and was scared of a lot of the areas with wild enemies. She ended up being obsessed with Zora's Domain. Every night, we had to start and end our game with Zora's Domain. She just wanted to watch me walk around, climb the stairs, fall into the water, ascend back up. There's one area at the very bottom with a few shiny crabs. I'm pretty sure no other player has as many Hero's Path hours clocked in Zora's Domain as me. For months our bedtime routine was just wandering around Zora's Domain in a liminal fever dream.

"just trying to give you something to watch while you eat" thank you me and my breakfast were lost before this popped up

Zora's Domain feels like what you would get when you ask a bunch of fish people to build a fancy royal palace just so visiting diplomats can feel important.

They built a thing they have no need for.

Had to do a double take to check at 04:08 and saw you added reflections of the white circles in the water. That is an amazing level of detail to add that I assume most would not notice.

i love the b-roll in this video. most youtubers would use some standard atmospheric footage, maybe some gameplay shots of fighting a bokoblin or a mini boss, but any austin uses a clip of him poorly shooting a moblin while in (diving not paragliding) bullet time and then smashing straight into the ground and rolling down the hill with the game over screen. pure cinema.

I don't know why, but the mini-lecture about "managed expectations" at 9:54 being set to footage of Link very intently sniping an enemy while falling to his death was extra funny to me.

4:15 fun fact! These little ledges are for early-game players who went to the Hebra region as the first branch of the Regional Phenomena questline, and had not leveled up their stamina wheel or cooked stamina-refilling foods, and found themselves swimming in the lake and needing a quick 'rest spot', since swimming and climbing both deplete stamina. These ledges toward the bottom allow beginner players to have a safe ledge to rest on and recover stamina before continuing the rest of their journey upward, if they so choose to take that route :)

Has "most boring" in the title - is the most interresting video i'm gonna see all week.

Another spot that I like is where the horse god was botw. because it was designed to have something in it, and I do think you get a special horse there in totk, but after you do that quest- and while you're doing, frankly, it's just. empty, with weirdly tall walls and water around the edges.

finding out austin hasn’t played shadow of the colossus has rattled me to my core. you could create a 43 hour long video about the most boring, but beautiful corners of that world!!

4:28 The fact that there is actually something to do on this pillar tells me it's not as boring as it should be to land on this list. Entirely unacceptably too much to do.

one of the things that surprised me about this video is that compared to many of the games you cover, I have actually specifically visited many of these places EXPECTING content, because of how distinct they appear on the map. i remember walking everywhere in the snowy mountain area cuz i was too stubborn to get invested in the car-building mechanics that the game encouraged me to try. when you're looking for shrines and you don't have the entire depths explored, these are just the places you expect a shrine-like event to occur. Great video!

Never felt so called out by a youtube video, as "just trying to give you something to watch while you eat" perfectly synced with the last bite of my lunch. Great video as always!

The Zora’s domain thing is an interesting yet understandable pick. Partially because the Zora have much less in terms of housing. Every other of the races have houses where they chill to sleep at night or such (or they just vanish into the air if they’re Koroks) but the Zora all seem to sleep in the pools near the underside of the throne room. Since they all gather there and apparently have no need for traditional housing (for some reason??), the need to make the space seem more grand and “lived in” does contribute to the problem you mention of looking way more interesting than there actually is stuff to do.

Interestingly, Age of Calamity, something of a BotW prequel/sequel, shows places like a Goponga Village, which is mainly settled by Zora who are living in more traditionally Hylian styled homes on some marshy areas that are all in ruins in BotW. So it implies the housing thing is a Zora Domain specific thing and not necessarily what all Zora of the era ascribed to. Just odd little details about your final point.

My boring place: just to the East of the Spirit Temple in the depths is a long, narrow bit created by waterfalls and lake up on the surface. I thought to myself "Hey, that looks like a place that should have a fun little secret of some kind, like a treasure chest or something." So I went there and when I got to the end: nothing. No enemies, no treasure chest, not even a weapon guy on a pile of rocks. And I feel like that exemplifies one of the things that annoys me about TOTK: there are many places that look like they should have a reward or some kind for getting to them, and there's not even a korok seed.

Hey Austin, you might not see this, but I didn't play BOTW and struggled to engage with TOTK to start. Your first video on its unremarkable places made me open the game and go check out that corner of the map, and then I thought "what if I defied this undefiable game?" And I spend the next maybe 15 hours of gameplay determined... to make a journey around the outer perimeter of the entire map, a map that I had never explored. And only that perimeter. I got to explore every weird invisible wall and impassable ledge in this game and broke the illusion of its seemingly infinite size very quickly. Because of this, I missed most of the content in the middle of the map, and it took me 100 hours to see the Lost Woods or Kakariko for the first time. I've still never seen a Great Fairy. It was a lonely and unique experience that felt like true exploration. Thank you Austin

That Battlefront 1 noise when you bring up the map awoke a core memory for me

12:22 Kirby fans know A LOT about these. Every installment calls back to previous entries in the series in every imaginable way possible, the music (leitmotifs), the stages (recreation of stages, gameplay features), the collectibles (figurines, trophies, cookies, colors, masks, etc.), the bosses (common motifs of Kirby bosses, movesets, etc.), the story (common themes throughout the series and also just the lore), literally everything

I was holding my baby niece as I watched this video, and she was a little fussy, but now she’s fallen asleep in my arms.

Either that means Austin has a soothing voice, or these are indeed so boring that a baby fell asleep just looking at them.
