This also happens in Assam, India. I got my period when I was 10 years old and all this was done to me while I had no idea what was happening to me. This traumatized me so bad that I hated my body and it took me 7+ years to actually accept that periods are normal and they're not the enemy. This experience truly ruined my innocence and made me too mature (because of trauma) and even made me stop socialising because I felt so alienated because all my friends had their periods at around 12 to 13 years old

I think period parties are fine but only if the girl wants to have one and only the people she wants are allowed to come. I also would make sure it is far more discreet

The tradition does still exist in South India cuz i had my period party too.

alr so its not only symbolic of carrying a baby but its blessings. bc some women do have fertility issues in their pregnancy lives. yes, having the entire village know u got ur period is extreme. as a south indian not everyone’s party is like this. i had three elderly women come over bless me and worship the lord that i’ll one day conceive beautiful healthy babies. i feel like the influencer here was spreading information in a way that’s not ALWAYS true. no hate to her! im glad she spoke out on this. it needs to be talked about.
