Thrift Store Makeover #10

Hey guys! Today is another episode from my series Thrift Store Makeovers, where I take a used, worn out item (OR sometimes from yard sales or off of ebay) clean it up, fix it up and decorate it. I love hunting through thrift stores to find old, rejected items and then decorating them and putting my own style on them to turn them into new pieces of art. I've definitely missed these thrift flips and I want to do more thrifting soon!

In this episode I am going to be painting on and customizing a ceramic ice cream cone vase cup thing? I had so much fun with this because I decided to incorporate some daiso clay into the project as well as painting and decorating it. Hope you like it!

Hey! my name is Moriah (pronounced muh-rye-yuh 😂 ) and this is my channel....obviously. I'm 26 and like doing anything creative...and being snarky.....just a lil. Tip time for Moriah!:
When using clay to make a large item it’s best to sculpt it out with tin foil first then sculpt clay around it. This results in less clay being used, the result being lighter and a decrease in drying time!

Early, and I love how Moriah is child friendly but she doesn’t act like she’s filming videos for 3 year olds. I’ve been watching Moriah for ages, before I was even signed into YouTube, and I’ve always loved her content. I’ve been waiting all week for another one of your videos. Hey Moriah, just so you know if you want to put something in the middle of clay you usually use tin foil and scrunch it up then cover it in clay. Just make sure you don't make the clay to thin or it will crack when it dries. Love your videos and that monkey is ADORABLE.

CLAY ADVICE (that I’m sure someone has already said, since I’m 5 mos late. 🤣)
To make the object lighter, next time fill the center with balled up foil and shape the clay around it. 👍🏼

Small tip for sculpting heavy pieces like that. You can wait until the outside is dry enough for you to scoop out the middle of the clay, to make it hollow and lighter weight.

In future, you could use tinfoil to build up bulk for large clay pieces which will help make things lighter :)

As a ceramic artist and art teacher, I think this was a lovely clay sculpture! 😍 I was so pleasantly surprised by this makeover, too! My first thought would have been to just paint the cone and be done, but your creativity continues to inspire me! 🥰

3:27 Somebody has probably already said this but you can use foil as a filler and put the clay over top so it's much lighter and you dont waste as much :)
