M3 MacBook Air in Late 2024 - Should you Buy?

Reviewing my new M3 MacBook Air 16GB 512GB 13 inch laptop. I am upgrading from my old M1 MacBook Pro 13. Let me know your opinion on this laptop!

Awesome video! I have owned 2 M1 MacBook Air's with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB Hard drive. Both of them worked great. Now? After looking at the M4 MacBook Pro, and the new iMac M4, I just came from best buy where I bought a M3 MacBook air with 16GB RAM, a 512GB Hard Drive, and an extended warranty. The price I paid was $1234.00 dollars, including California tax is was around $1338.00. I'm thrilled with my purchase and while I could wait for the M4 MacBook air, I'm confident this 15" screen M3 will suit me just fine. Phenomenal review. I just replaced a working 2020 13" M1 Air 8/256 with a 2024 15" M3 Air 16/256. I did it because I wanted to not because I needed to, though I was getting annoying with the memory situation. I considered waiting until the M4s this Spring but the combination of the 'Black Friday' deals and the fact that I don't anticipate anything new on the M4 Air beyond the chip (which is not and has not been an issue for the Air since the M1's release).

The screen is obviously a big improvement, more real estate and noticeably brighter at the same relative brightness settings. The speakers are the biggest improvement. The memory bottleneck I'd see with a lot of tabs open is gone, this is the only real performance difference I notice.

The build quality and form factor is about the same. Which is to say the form factor is noticeably different but not necessarily better IMO. Build quality is the same, which is to say amazing.

So was it worth $1130 after tax? No it was not but I am happy with the purchase, it is nice to have something new to work on. The 2020 M1 Air holds up remarkably well today and anyone in the market for an Air might be best served by getting one of those. I see them for $450ish used and $5-600 new.

Great review. There’s some good deals out there at the minute. I’ve been looking at the m3 Air 24gb ram (for longevity reasons) and 512 SSD but after watching your video, I’ll probably stick with the 16gb ram

I also got this in late 2024. I would have waited for the imminent M4 version but I needed one for the holidays and a vacation/flights to and from Japan in early Jan. I've been very happy with it. I upped the RAM to 24GB though and storage to 2TB. I still have an M1 Studio hooked up to a pro display XDR in my office as my main productivity machine.

My dad has been barely making it by with a 2014 MacBook Air, 8 gb ram and 256 gb ssd. Just got him an M3 13in MacBook Air 16 gb ram 256 ssd during the Black Friday deal on Amazon. After this video I'm confident that I made a good purchase for his needs of video conferencing and recording audio/editing videos.

I upgraded from M1 Air to M3 Air, because they had nice Black Friday discounts. Plus 5 year warranty without any age deduction. It is very easy to sell after 3-4 years of use when there’s still warranty.

Plus, M3 is more than I need. Very capable machine.

For general web browsing or light photo/video editing, this is still a great option. Especially for someone with an iPhone.

Best for anyone in middle school, high school, adults with a Blue collar jobs, or college students not majoring in engineering nor finance/accounting/economics.
