Today we’re going to talk about how cold-water immersion can greatly affect your genes in a positive way.

To experience these incredible benefits, you only need to do cold-water immersion therapy for eleven minutes per week.

You can get the advantages of cold-water immersion by using a special cold-water immersion tank, a cold shower, a cold pool, or a cold body of water.

While heat therapy is beneficial, cold therapy has even more benefits. If you have no tolerance for doing this, taking B vitamins may help make it easier.

Cold-water immersion can potentially help decrease:
• ApoA to ApoB ratios
• Homocysteine levels
• Oxidative stress
• ACTH and cortisol
• Antibodies
• Insulin
• Uric acid
• Your risk for upper respiratory tract infections
• Depression
• Pain
• Inflammation
• Muscle soreness
• Recovery time after exercise
• The growth of tumors

Cold-water immersion can potentially help increase:
• Thyroid stimulating hormone and T3
• T cells
• White blood cells
• Zinc
• Noradrenaline
• Insulin sensitivity
• Mental resilience

Cold-water immersion also helps turn on certain genes that would otherwise be inhibited. These genes have amazing effects, like supporting metabolism and many other health benefits.

I tried ice baths. First 30 seconds were horrible. My calves were in pain. I tried 3 times in one visit. The ice was real. The cold more real. Initially the 30 seconds went to1 minute and then 5 minutes the last dip. The next week I ended up lying in the ice bath for 10 minutes at rest. Now at home I bought a cattle drinking tub with city water at 5 degrees (Celsius)and I can sit in it for 10 minutes after a long day working. I feel like super man after getting out. Fully exhilarated and my sleep got much better.

I had an unfortunate situation 2 years ago that caused me to be homeless most of the winter. The coldest one recorded in that state, just my luck lol. I was cold all day at work, cold when I slept AND the shower at my gym broke so I only had cold showers. The only warmth I got was the food I ate and sometimes at work but other than those 2 things my body was having to heat itself. At the same time I unfortunately could only afford 1 or 2 small meals a day. Ended up being healthy intermittent fasting. It was that way for almost a month straight. It was hell BUT I had some crazy benifits of that situation. All my inflammation disappeared, I had the best sleep I've ever had, tons of energy, I lost weight like crazy and I got physically stronger. I'm also Swedish so my genes are made for the cold. I'm not suggesting it to anyone but there are benifits. I'm finally at a good place so I'm building my own cold bath and I'm still training and doing intermittent fasting.

Wim Hof has been advocating this for a long time... as well as breath work.

I live in Canada and am Indigenous. We have been cold-water bathing for thousands of years. It's nice to see some science and research on this. I go to the Ocean and two glacier rivers 4 times per week! The glacier rivers range in temperature from 1 - 4 degrees and the ocean is about 5-7 degrees. I crave the swims now and will never stop for the rest of my life!

Excellent presentation. I take a 5 minute 59F cold shower at 3:00am every morning. There is no better way to wake up and feel awesome for the entire day. THERE IS A FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH, and its name is cold water immersion. 🙂

I've been doing daily cold emersion/cold showers for three years - the benefits are not just physical! Mental health positivity is a beautiful side effect. Mental clarity, focus and concentration come with the cold therapy, too. I look forward to my 3 - 5 minute daily! It's great.

Thank you Dr. Berg! I hope you see this Sir! I Truly want to say thank you for all of the knowledge you have shared with us. I found your channel. I have learned so much from your videos and started actively pursuing a healthy lifestyle nearly 4 months ago. I am 57, 6'3" and weighed 210lbs when I started my focus on health February 1, 2023. I did not know that I was on my way to type 2 diabetes, but also knew I was not healthy. I began this journey with the mindset of getting in the best shape I possibly could for longevity, not weight loss. Insulin resistance and the health of my liver have been a priority. I started with 2 meals a day, cutting out all snacks, sugar and processed foods. This worked so well and had me feeling better than I had in years, I took the next step and began One Meal A Day with a 4 to 6 hour window of eating per day. As of today, I weighed in at 179.2, have more energy than I can remember having in decades. The weight coming off was a byproduct of only one of your recommendations I employed. I am sure that I was having an Iodine deficiency as my eyebrows are really starting to fill in since taking Kelp supplements, especially on the outsides of each. I was also deficient in B-vitamins, the vertical lines on my nails have nearly been eliminated and they are almost back to normal. Nobody wants to talk about it, but even hemorrhoids are addressed and helped from your advice on Collinsonia Root. I added Colostum to help heal my gut, but the one that has changed my life the most and I mean daily is the addition of Betaine HCI. I had a back injury 10 years ago and am hooked on Advil as I won't take opiates, it was really upsetting my stomach which led to heartburn so I began taking Pepcid, daily, for years to offset the heartburn and the calcium was not allowing body to absorb any vitamins, or essential mineral. Information also learned from one of your videos. I am trying to walk as much as possible, 2 to 5 miles per days a week as possible, it's difficult to walk a lot after breaking my back, but it is amazing how good I feel after. The one I am still hanging tuff with is Niacin, with Flushing as you recommended. Wow, Niacin can be intense, but awesome, I love it. The bottom line to all this is that I am So Grateful to have found your videos, I was on a slow road to death and feel like I have a new lease on life that I attribute to your videos. I look forward to more of your videos and can not recommend your channel any higher than I already do to everybody I can.
Thank you Dr. Berg!

Cold showers every day gave me a lot of positives:
- no cold, not a day being sick
- less inflamation
- faster recovery after workouts
- better skin (cod liver oil plays a big part also)
- mental clarity
- less fatique
- better stress management
- more energy
- most IMPORTANT I just feel better

I don't do sauna, can't stand hot water.

The only minus is that during those hot days when it's really really hot I feel not as good, sometimes really bad.

In conclusion: cold water is the way to go 👍 and it's your fault Dr Berg... soooo Thank You 🥊😉

Just wanted to thank you for this. I started cold therapy a year ago
along with other vitamins along with medication and my Crohn’s disease is now in complete remission for the first time in 25 years. Thank you!

I use the cold plunge pool alternatively at the sauna. Usually around 10-8 degrees C (sauna approx 60+ for 15 mins each time). The contrast between the two is such a great feeling. Agree with Dr Berg that the body goes into shock in the cold, but it's possible to realise this at the time and relax the body for 1-1.5 minutes each time. I also try to cold shower as much as possible.

I have not gone the full level of cold therapy. I just gradually turn down the heat of my hot shower to cold.
It is still very effective as my body aches less and mentally I am able to control my depression a lot better.

I will slowly build up my cold tolerance to be able to one day dip into an ice bath.

If you happen to be battling prostrate cancer, and they are giving you shots to lower your testosterone, then do not do cold water immersion, as it will have the opposite effect. God Bless all, and TY Dr. Berg for all the good you do.

Hy Doctor, since three years i take cold shower every day. This Winter, i take cold baths in the Leman lake in Swizerland, also at the "Tèppes de Verbois", where I had to breake the ice before going in the water. The feeling is so powerfull!! And since 5 years, I take care of my feed. Right now I'm 60, but I feel so better than 10 years ago! And my friends ask me what I'm doing to be like that!
I really enjoy cold baths!
Thank you Doctor
Dominik from France.

I take a cold shower twice a day now. I've gotten used to it; what helps me is starting the shower first, and then stepping in. If you get your feet wet first it makes it easier

I have Plantar fasciitis and the only thing that helps my feet is to soak them in a tub of ice water several times a day. The more you do it, the easier it gets.

Just tried for the first time in my tub with 15 degree water for 6 minutes while I played two of my favorite songs. It didn't take me long to control my breathing, 20 seconds in I was fine...around 30 seconds in my submerged body became too warm to notice the temperature anymore. I can't tell what I'm feeling, but I feel light on my feet, and my mood feels better too. I'll try to keep this up weekly to record the benefits I experience. Thanks Dr. Berg!
