Death Star Destroys Planet Earth (Adobe After Effects VFX) Star Wars Laser Explosion

I went to Star Wars: Rogue One a few months ago and absolutely loved it! I was completely blown away by the CGI in that movie, especially the scene where the Death Star destroys Jedha.

After a while I came up with the idea to try to "recreate" that scene, although this video is more *inspired* by Rogue One. I put some remade shots from A New Hope in there as well, from the destruction of Alderaan, which I fully recreated as accurately as possible.

I'm really happy with how it turned out, even though it doesn't even come close to Rogue One! I tried to go a little overboard with the lens flares to give it an ultimate sci-fi movie feel. The black bars help as well, even though those were necessary when recreating the scenes from A New Hope. I do regret not rendering it in the wide aspect ratio, which means you always get black bars, even on wider screens. I'll do this correctly in the future...

Every shot here was made by me, and I also rendered the earth. I used no third party plugins (except for Video Copilot's Saber, which is free).

It was great until they ruined it at the end when the superlaser didn't seem to do anything to the planet and that stupid energy blob blew it to bits...like why oh why this could have been so great. What it should have shown when it zoomed out was the planet rapidly overheating and bursting from the superlaser beam, with that same effect that you used for when the lame red ball hit it. If the whole point of it was that the Earth was completely burnt to a cinder and then they shot the red bomb to easily shatter the still smoldering, vulnerable charred ball of ash, it certainly still looked like a healthy Earth after the superlaser beamed down on it, because after the green beam stopped the planet looked like it didn't even get a scratch! Like man this had soooo much potential because there were some good effects in there
