In the IT industry we use VMware vSphere (ESXi) a lot and virtualization is a core part of our daily lives. Threadripper shares much of the same architecture as AMD EPYC cpu's so we are going to give ESXi 6.5u1 on Threadripper. This setup may actually be very beneficial for some workloads such as Graphics workstations on VDI that tend to run off a single thread and require more raw clock-speed.

Mine doesn't work. Most probably due to old bios on my x399 taichi. I got stuck at the ahci loading

Hey do you think vmware can handle video effects compositing app like after effects running on Ryzen like this? where as bbefore it wasn't recommended because vmware couldn't access the necessary hardware?

Any ideas if ESXi work with AMD Ryzen 3000 series ? If not, is it a short coming of AMD Ryzen series by design or something with ESXi may get a future update to resolve?

Quick one, do you know if there are any issues with drivers and VM crashes, I have a 1900x system I would like to use for this as my VM server as I run a bit of a trendy IT company and think it would be a fun little project that's different from a boring rack mount server.

Any thoughts or reliability issues please let me know (I will probably have a play around regardless as I have been a VMware guy for many many years)

Can you pas through cards plugged into slots? (Ie. Network cards or disk controllers?)
