The Power of Song shows how the people of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania confronted a military superpower and achieved independence in the Baltic "singing revolution." When attacked by Soviet soldiers in public displays of violent force, singing Balts maintained faith in nonviolent political action. More than 110 choral, rock, and folk songs are translated and interpreted in poetic, cultural, and historical context.

Those were the days when culture saved three nations from annihilation. Those three years... they were really something else, something indescribable. Music made magic happen.

Good try to explain singing revolution. Each song takes the soul or lifts it up to the place of destination. We just did something that was allowed by regime and officials had no legal right to forbid. Of course that was risky for first time to rise the historical flags of all 3 baltic states. The only escuse was that it is just an particle of a history ...like just traditional costumes that we wear just during festival. But deepest idea was clear to every one without speaking or singing.
