Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Ottawa will be working with provinces to increase the pay of essential workers who are making less than $2,500 a month. Trudeau also says workers who earn $1,000 or less a month, are now eligible to apply for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit. This is aimed at those with jobs but reduced earnings, like gig and seasonal workers, contractors and part-time workers.

So I met this requirement right here, but now I got a letter for a cerb repayment. I’m so confused

Fantastic so those of us who had to find new jobs and take wage cuts are supposed to live off of $1001 a month, meanwhile people receiving cerb get $2000 a month income. The government's maths skill are questionable at best. Why wouldn't people just quit so they can afford to live. This is ludicrous.

Great but how much will you take away from the 2000. I got 23 hours of work at 14 and hour-one time in the month less then 322$ before tax and you took 500 from me.

Wonderful news. This avoids messing with people’s incentives of either CERB or part-time job, now you can do both.

Justin, temporarily lay off all public servants and get them to collect EI. That would be cheaper. I mean why are they paid full salary when they are not even at work and don't give me "they work at home" BS. Christ, they hardly work at work.

The CRA clearly states this requirement on their website: "You have stopped or will stop working for reasons related to COVID-19". This contradicts what the video says. In addition it says, "Note: If you are later found to be ineligible, you will be required to repay the benefit."

What if you make 1100? You lose everything or what?

In the past week, here in Ontario, I've had people talk about their "paycheque" from the government, the same people are working under the table in off the books construction. On youtube, there is a sickening number of channels describing how to game the system. For my wife and I, still working, still paying taxes, nothing. Not a thing. We can look forward to paying more taxes, a lot more,

Does anyone have any idea if you work part time hours, is the CERB on top of your wage? so wage + $2000. or if you're making $1000 or under at work, they just top you up to $2000? We have the option now to figure out part time hours as staff may return to work, but it isn't clear if the CERB is $2000 no matter how much you make up to $1000. It would suck to go back to work, do 10-20hrs a week, make $900 then only receive $1100 in cerb.

instead of applying for this, this should be given to all Canadians and it should be sent to all Canadians instantly

I think fair enough for those cut hours, they're now eligible to CERB. Of course there will always be criteria to avoid abuses.

Can someone help me in my case?
so I know i cant apply for the subsequent period because I make a bit over $1000 for an entire 4 week period. But for the first claim they say "For at least 14 days in a row during the 4-week payment period, you do not expect to receive more than $1, 000 (before taxes) from employment"

so im applying for March 15-April 11:
in March 15-March 28 (14 consecutive days): i have stopped working but got paid around $600 before tax which is less then $1000
but in March 29 - April 11: still not working but company paid me $700 before tax but this is the second half of the period (past the 14 consecutive days)

Am i eligible for the first period?
