I relate to Forrest and his love for Jenny. The line "I'm not stupid. I know what love is." positively breaks my heart. I truly do know what it is to love someone incapable of loving you back. That doesn't mean they rejected you, nor that you are unworthy. It simply means that is the way it is. That was the understanding I allowed myself several decades ago toward someone whom I have loved for 60 years. There was no forgiveness. He did nothing to forgive. It was what it was.

FYI, Tom Hanks said on the Graham Norton show that it was Tom’s idea to speak like his child actor Forrest. They were trying to get the kid to talk like Tom and Tom suggested it would be easier for him to learn how the kid talked.
