It’s annoying that on YouTube, the best quality and most life affirming videos get overlooked. I just love to see your enthusiasm when beginning your new garden adventure. There is nothing more satisfying than recycling and growing, not to mention tasting the most nutritious organic produce! :)

Everytime Gaz is surprised that something actually grew in his garden and has a taste of it, I swear a year gets added to my life. It is so wholesome and wonderful to see someone enjoying the fruits of their labour.

Loved the mexico documentary vids. They were awesome and it was obvious how much love went into them.💕

1. The moles don't damage the garlic. If the garlic is pushed up from underneath you can just push it down again.

2. We have moles in our garden but we don't have raised beds and I'm okay with a little damage here and there. (It pushed up one corn plant and two beans). However, a few days ago we discovered an unusually big pile of dirt. We didn't think it was the mole and we just dug into it. Well. There were six baby moles in there and unfortunately we had no idea how to save them.

3. There is softneck garlic and hardneck garlic. The softneck can be stored much longer. If your garlic was a nice little ring of cloves around a hard stalk at the centre, then you planted hardnecks. They will grow scapes that should be cut off before it blooms, so the plant will focus on root growth. You can eat the scapes 🙂

4. Do add flowers. It makes an enormous difference for the health of your garden in every way.

Don't be discouraged by the view counts on the Mexican videos. You've spent years growing an audience who come to watch vegan recipes being cooked. The new content has some crossover, but it's fundamentally appealing to a different type of audience that you haven't yet cultivated. If Justin Bieber suddenly started singing opera, some people would watch, but a lot wouldn't care because they don't associate him with that style of music 😀

I live in Sebastopol, California and we have moles, voles, and gophers throughout the area. You need to have hardware cloth beneath the beds…which is actually heavy duty wire that will last for years. We plant everything in gopher baskets throughout the yard and it keeps all the critters away from the roots. Hope this helps.

Don't stop making these, or the Mexico-type docs Gaz. It's some of your best work. I personally love the gardening, as it inspires me to start my own vegetable patch!

Oh gosh, I loved those Mexico videos! I was hoping you were going to do loads more. If anyone hasn’t watched them, do it today! They are excellent.

Moles dislike plants with strong smells, such as daffodils, marigolds, and anything in the allium family. Another option is moles don’t like disruptive areas usually. purchase a sonic spike from your local home and garden store and insert it into the ground in your garden. This spike will use electronic pulses to create irritating sounds that encourage the moles to go elsewhere. I’ve used both these methods individually and together, I prefer doing both together.

The garden is looking righteous, Gaz. Thankfully I don’t have to deal with moles or voles that much. I would think that installing metal mesh under the raised beds would be the only way to control them. Just be thankful you guys don’t have ground hogs.

It's so easy to forget that a 20-something minute video takes days, weeks, even months sometimes to make. I appreciate your content so much. I try my best to interact with my subs' videos because I know it helps, but sometimes I forget to. I'm rambling. Anyway, your garden is STUNNING and the weather looks so envious.

For your mole problem look for where it lives and plant a small garden just for the mole. It will respect your garden.

This is the life I truly want - the city isn't quite healthy for me anymore and my heart yearns for the countryside.🌄 I may not be able to obtain this in my current state of residence but I'm hoping I'll have something like this elsewhere. 💕🙏🏽

Thank you for sharing Gaz! Happy gardening! 🌱😊

Unfortunately youtube does not reward quality and inspirational content. This is amazing and totally inspirational. If your heart is in it you have to keep making this content. I have bough a woodland in Ceredigion. Looking forward to creating a food forest! Midges are a problem at this time of year though!

Here in the US we have an underused body of volunteers who give free advice to home gardners, affiliated with our state university cooperative extension. Find out ifyou have something similar to you.
Meantime, if they are moles, they won't eat your crops. They will eat lots iof bugs that will damage your crops. So they can be helpful. Trouble is their mounds can spoil the landscape.
Gophers will damage everything you grow.
You can try natural deterrents. Castor seed oil granules won't harm them, it will just make them leave. You will need repeat applications.
I have not found electronic deterrents effective. They get used to them, and come back.
The most effective control is to dig up the entire area, six inches deeo, line the entire area with quarter inch hardware cloth, add the soil back, and make sure the cloth extends at least twelve inches from the bottom to above the soil line to keep them from jumping over and tunneling. Six inches above the soil line for moles and gophers, and up to two feet if you have rabbits, who are also nocturnal. Rabbits make plants vanish from above, gophers from below.
If you have deer, you will need eight foot mesh fencing.
Good luck! I have an acre in the middle of the California foothills, and I say the same as you. They have acres and acres to eat from, they need to leave my food alone!!!
(I do serve as a Master Gardener for my county).

I absolutely LOVED the Mexico video In fact I liked it better than your usual recipe videos. I know just one person's opinion like this doesn't change the numbers, but I just want you and Tom to know that I truly appreciated all the effort and heart that went into that series. Seriously good work.
