Permaculture Kitchen Garden Tour in March | No Dig Beds in Springtime

I am kicking off a new series of monthly video tours from the garden so you can see how much changes over time and as well as a way of documenting the progress to compare the different growing seasons in future years. Hopefully, this garden tour of my permaculture kitchen garden will give you some ideas and insight into how this growing season will go, and I am particularly excited for fresh peas provided the voles stop attacking my seedlings!

I can't wait to see your coffee ground experiment progress, and the eventual results.

Love it! I’m in Florida so we garden until it gets too hot! We need a Air conditioned greenhouse here. None the less, spring still comes very quietly. We have a clutch of bunnies in one of my raised beds. And we saw an owlet scaling up one of our oak trees. And the fruit trees in my food forest are budding and flowering. It’s such joy to experience all these miracles in our gardens.

Nice to see all of that green. We still have about 3 feet of snow on our gardens in 3b northern Ontario Canada. The test gardens look very interesting. Thanks for all. The info.

your garden looks amazing! I am a little envious, though technically in the same zone here in northern Germany, we had some pretty cold temperatures this winter, down to -18°C and it seems everything is behind at least two or three weeks.
Careful with the highly toxic foxgloves if you have chickens. The seedlings spread everywhere and will be eaten by the chickens! They avoid more mature plants, but they don't seem to recognize the seedlings.
Your new book is like no other gardening book I've ever read (and I've read many). It is absolutely amazing and I will review properly soon!

Worms LOVE coffee grounds. It is a really good way to bulk up your compost or soil, as the grounds are effectively sterile having had boiling water run through them. So in general you aren't bringing any nasties in. I use them all the time here in NZ. Brilliant to add to clay soil.

Great garden tour! It will be interesting to see your results on the coffee grounds. I use a lot of Starbucks coffee grounds in my beds and compost. I pick up several 30# to 40# bags of coffee grounds every week, and they are used everywhere. Not only have they enriched the soil, but the draw a lot of earthworms to the beds. If I have too many to use in the gardens, I just make a pile of them on the ground and they turn into a worm bin.

Hi, Huw.

It is heartwarming to see all the seedling. I am new in gardening. Your seedling nursery is so inspiring. I think i will make it one in the near future.

I always get momentarily depressed watching these videos, as I sit here with still a foot of snow on the ground. But it's alright, I know in a few months time I'll be able to enjoy the warmth of spring and watch all the lovely plants grow up around me!
