(Pt 6- Clutch is STUCK!!) '67 Triumph GT6 (Labor Day Special)

preview_player
Показать описание
Time to install some fresh seals in the Brake and Clutch Master Cylinders, as well as replace the Collapsed Brake Hoses on the 1967 Triumph GT6.

Once the hydraulic fluid pressure built up in the Clutch System, it becomes obvious that the Clutch Slave Cylinder is SEIZED SOLID!!

We'll keep forging ahead and try to free up the stuck Clutch.

Will the Vintage Triumph be able to DRIVE out of the garage on its own today??

Enjoy!

That mystery rubber gasket in the kit is for the cap of the brake fluid, the old one tends to dry out and crack. Same for the clutch fluid, there was originally a round cork gasket there in the lid, later on replaced with rubber. the brake seals are available off the shelf by me, though if they have no stock they can be made to order for around $50 for the 2 you need. Had some larger ones made, which worked out to around $5 each for a bulk lifetime buy, as they lasted a year in service, and I was not going to pay 80 Euro each for them as OEM parts.

The test drive was great. The colors in the clouds were awesome, thanks for including it.

At 70 I don’t miss these old relics from early in my career.

I don’t know how I was ever flexible enough to deal those tight places.

Rebuilding master cylinders, brake cylinders, clutch slave cylinders and tune ups including points, condenser, rotor, cap, wires and plugs used to be our bread and butter. These were practically our bread and butter back in the day. Just about a lost art now. I can still rebuild and tune most carburetors brands. Great vid series.

That smoking might be the horn button wiper contact in the wheel. It might be shorting.

I could see Ivan owning this GT6 along with a 67 Triumph motorcycle. Am I crazy?

With hydraulic clutches, if you have to keep pumping the clutch to get it to disengage, it's usually the master cylinder. If the clutch starts to engage while holding the pedal down, it's usually the slave.

Dianne the eternal pessimist, hanging with Ivan the eternal optimist is quite the duo….

It used to be far cheaper to buy those Girling brake, Clutch and slave cylinders than it was to mess about fitting kits. They were so common it seemed that every English car had them, even my 1977 Ford F100 pickup had one for the clutch.
A source of clutch woes with that engine was the thrust bearings in the crank shaft wearing , allowing the crank to walk backwards and forwards, which could prevent the clutch from releasing. With the engine idling, get someone to pump the clutch pedal while you watch the crank damper. you may see the damper/pulley move outwards.

I have deduced over the years that there is a black hole next to my work bench.

I always flush the old brake fluid out before installing the new parts in. Some moisture in the calipers and wheel cylinder will never bleed out by pumping the pedal.
