Wild Horses Guitar Lesson - How To Tutorial

In this guitar tutorial, we are going to discuss one of my favorite songs, Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones. In this lesson video, I will discuss some different strumming patterns you can use throughout the song. I will discuss patterns used by the Stone as well as patterns I like to use when I perform live. At the end of the video, I will also discuss some dynamic tips to help give your playing more emotion and interest.

This song is more in the intermediate realm because we have two barre chords, quick chord changes and a mixture of strumming patterns that we will be applying throughout the song.

Thanks for the great lesson... The graphics really help to learn how to count... One suggestion: If we have "1 2 + a", instead of counting it as "DDDU", it would be better to count it as "One Two and a". That way, we know what beat we are on. And it is already implied that the numbered beats, (as well as the "and" beat) are downstrums. If we just count "Down Down and a" it does not tell us which beat we are on.

Thanks for the great lesson...At 11:50, which shows the suggested pattern for the split measure G and F. I notice there is an "UP" strum for "+". Does that mean the strumming pattern temporarily changes to an eighth note strumming pattern? ("+" is normally "DOWN" strum for sixteenth note strumming pattern).

Hello Lauren,
Great lesson, thanks!
Quick question: It looks like you hold your pick using the thumb and middle finger instead of index finger, is that just a personal preference ?

Lauren - Very helpful lesson - I looked at others and came back to yours. I noticed everyone seems to go from the bar Bm to the open G instead of just going to the bar G which seems to be more straightforward to me as more of a beginner / intermediate. The sound seems to stay pretty close between the two. Is there a reason why the open G is always used?

I’ll try this a little bit further down the line... nice to know it’s here, though.

I normally love your lessons but this one was very confusing for me. Especially at the end of the intro where you have the G Am G Am G but yhou don't demo it and you just contuse on to the next step.
