A short video showing you how I progressed my work from 10 years ago until now. I've improved a lot in that time, hopefully I can share how I did that.

My Colour Theory Video -

For extra help with understanding how light works search for a documentary called 'Light, Darkness and Colours – A Fascinating Journey through the Universe of Colours.'
It's an old one but it's well worth a watch as it made everything finally make sense to me!

Love your work and thank you for this video. I'm a begginer and have managed some good animal eyes from tutorials and posted them on my Facebook wall, but now want to try to paint a family dog who has passed on. My photo ref isn't great and the dog is a white Westy. Yours is the most realistic of a Westy I have seen in this videop Would love to learn HOW to acheive the white fur as realisticaly as you have done.

Excellent tips! I also found that its OK to take breaks to refresh yourself. Otherwise you'll get burnt out like any other thing you do in life.

A wonderful video Emma! It truely is amazing to see how much your work has progressed. Looking at them is like looking at paintings done by two completely different artists❗ 🎨

Such an amazing journey I would love to learn more about how you got to where you are now! I have been a professional Artist for over 35 years and Pastels was not a medium I used, I am excited to try a new medium that is so much looser than my work for all these years. Your work is simply amazing and I look forward to your videos! Thanks for continuing to make videos for YouTube too!

Thank you Emma, this is very concise and inspiring. I do need to be more grounded and I do spend more time now just musing and studying the subjects. Backgrounds used to scare me, but this will be a thing of the past. It is my intention to create some genuine income from my art and I thank you for sharing your ideas.

This is great advise Emma. Your videos and information has really helped my pastel work, and artwork in general. Even if the background isn't the main focus, I treat it just as important as the subject. Practice, practice and as well Patience!!

Very few people saw your video (it deserves so much more). I just saw the baby you draw in my previous video. Was very surprised with your heavy Texas accent or Scottish, hahaha(somehow very pleasant) . I did portraits somewhere 30 years ago on the beach on Adriatic coast and I was very good. Now trying to go back to drawing with pastel and acrylic and water colours.... For fast portrait, pastel is the best. I'm here in Canada now and I bought 'shminke' as the best pastel and 'Rembrandt'. They are so tick that on 'Canson' paper left no room for pencils, so now I bought the chippiest set of pastel chalks 'Mungvo'. Soon, I will try that. Can you please tell me what combination of pastel pencils and pastel chalks go best together.
And, what paper you have for best results.
You have lot of videos here and I will watch them soon. I hope I get some answer from you and I think it will help very much.
Thank you
