When arranging the booking just tell them your pay the tax when you reach the hotel. Why aren't our government departments taking this up they may be a Dutch company but having customers from the UK means they've got stick to our laws surely.

I think this is quite simple. If they can't( or more like wont) abide by laws in a country, then they should not be allowed to perform business or advertise to said country.

We stayed in France over the weekend and the same thing happened, we had to pay the city tax at the desk again. Shocking they are doing this, I hope they get done for it and one day we all get the money back with interest

I had a price from a booking site, can't remember which one, and then contacted the hotel directly to see if the price was cheaper. The hotel said the booking site would not allow them to quote a cheaper price or they would be delisted which would badly affect their business. So it seems at least that site was artificially inflating hotel prices.

This explains why we got a mysterious email asking for an amount close to an already paid Booking fee. We phoned our bank and were informed that it was a scam and they were being inundated with these demands.

I will never used them my friends were scammed and turned up to a holiday that didn’t exist. I will always go direct to the hotel or cruise etc

Use it to search for hotels, then contact the hotel directly. I have been doing this for years.

I travel a lot, usually in South East Asia. I use booking all the time. To find where I want to stay, then walk to the hotel and ask for the rate if I pay cash. Usually 20-25% cheaper. It takes the hotel a month to 6 weeks to actually receive the money from booking. They also have a function where they charge people from different countries different prices. I know this because my friend from Spain travels with me. For some reason they were charging him more for the same room when we looked at the same place online. Its great for finding good places. Just don't book through them.

I just use them to find out the hotel I want, then contact the hotel directly. It's a lot less hassle and sometimes cheaper.

Not used them for foreign holiday bookings but over the years have used them a lot but recently feel they are no longer the value for money they were. I always check directly with the hotel or rental and invariably they come up with a better price.
